Teebs Posted August 22, 2018 Posted August 22, 2018 "The plectra for the Japanese biwa and shamisen can be quite large, and those used for the Arabic oud are longer and narrower, replacing the formerly used eagle feather." Wikipedia Picks / Plectra should henceforth be replaced by eagle feathers - sooo much more poetic! *runs away cackling maniacally* Quote
Cuzzie Posted August 22, 2018 Posted August 22, 2018 I was thinking more Red Dwarf Defo prefer feathers Quote

fleabag Posted August 22, 2018 Posted August 22, 2018 And another thing The arm on a 6 string is not a Tremolo. It's a Vibrato. Tremolo changes volume and Vibrato changes pitch, therefore the string wobbling arm on a 6 string electric cannot be a Tremolo arm. Ever. No dispute. Phew etc 1 Quote
songofthewind Posted August 22, 2018 Posted August 22, 2018 And and and why do people say neck thickness when they mean neck width? Annoying and confusing! Quote
Teebs Posted August 22, 2018 Posted August 22, 2018 Looks like this thread is plectruming-up again! Quote

Cuzzie Posted August 22, 2018 Posted August 22, 2018 (edited) Is that white foamy stuff from the excitement of meeting a pick player? Or is it a more Macbeth Murder scene Edited August 22, 2018 by Cuzzie 1 Quote
Russ Posted August 22, 2018 Posted August 22, 2018 Speaking of picks, how about a very bored-looking Mark King playing with a pick, with Midge Ure? Quote

Pick is yet another Americanism being absorbed into the musicians vocabulary, like "Kick" instead of bass drum. I have never kicked a bass drum, not intentionally anyway. And why do they call a drum stool a "Throne"? Those crazy Yanks. Quote

songofthewind Posted August 23, 2018 Posted August 23, 2018 “Plectrum” is very Bert Weedon. When all we had was mail order cello guitars, as we used to call them. 1 Quote
Grassie Posted August 23, 2018 Posted August 23, 2018 (edited) I call it a pick because I like to say "pick" rather than "plectrum". "Plectrum" is two syllables and therefore takes twice as long to say than "pick" does. I'm a busy man y'know... Edited August 23, 2018 by Grassie 2 Quote
