Just played my first gig with my new band this afternoon and all I can remember thinking was "bloody hell I have remembered more songs than I thought I had!"

Which one of these p*ssheads is going to knock my teeth out by crashing into my mike stand or fall over my pedalboard?

(It was the latter last night, managing to pull the power lead out - luckily no damage)

Only thing I can remember thinking at last night's gig was 'well, that's the first time I've seen people line dancing to a Stevie Ray Vaughn song!'

I'm going to sound like a pretentious d!ck but I really don't remember what I think when I'm gigging. I'm so absorbed in the moment that I think my mind is empty. Clearly I must be thinking about the performance but it's all a bit Jekyll and Hyde, I'm two different people on and off stage and don't really recall one when I'm living the other.

Told you it would sound pretentious :D.

More practice you tosser!  (aimed at myself).

Is that really how it goes?!

If he says "one more time with feeling" again I'm going to kill him.

..or don’t you all take acid whilst playing these days?

once recorded a jam session where mushrooms were consumed by all.

Thought it was the best music we'd ever played.

Til we heard the recording lol

Last night I was thinking that the 60yr old drunk woman dancing right in front of my mic was really drunk. And I kept repeating the phrase "avoid eye contact, avoid eye contact!"

"Oh she's nice".
"What's the next song, I can't see my list".
"Oh that was a good drum break".
"How does he play guitar like that?"
"What's the first line of the next verse?"
"What's the first line of the next verse?"
"Jeez, I hope they didn't notice that!"

Last night:
"She had better not fall into the drums again".
"Oh good they have taken her home".
"If these buggers have to stand around and have a conversation, they could at least not form a crowd in front of me, as people are trying to watch the band."
"God, I'm tired".

The prison in Lexington, Kentucky was also a "Narcotics Farm" and drug addiction treatment hospital - in the 40s and 50s many famous jazz musicians were sent there after they were busted. Instruments were provided, and the inmates were encouraged to make music. Most of them believed that they played better when high - so apparently part of their treatment was to give them heroin, record them playing with and without it, and play them the recordings.

I think about what I'm playing, staying aware of what the rest of the band is dong and the audience.

I always think the rest of the band I’d dong, if they were ding I’d have to rethink my position.
