One shoulder strap appeals to me. I can’t seem to find any site that gives the dimensions, unfortunately and I can’t find it on ESP’s own site, which seems weird. £105 doesn’t seem too spiteful.

Gear4 music might have one in the warehouse and perhaps they’d measure it for you if you email. If not I can check one out for you when I’m next in the area

Yeah it’s not cheap but I couldn’t find one cheaper that fits and has the semi hardcase build. ESP do one which looks similar but it only has one shoulder strap.

Nice - I wonder if a Sandberg Lionel would fit?

That would be perfect for me then.

Let me know the size from top to bottom and I'll have a look for you, or you could send a tracing perhaps! Hell, just come to York for a bass nerd out sesh.

That would be fun.

I'm in Northants, but I do spend a bit of time in Sheffield delivering supplies to my eldest at Uni. Might be able to match that up at some point. Just not the beginning or end of term. It's a battle to get all her stuff in my car as it is!

I have a JMJ and a Lionel, the Lionel is approx 15mm shorter than the Mustang and body is similar dimensions

I've been having a good look at the Gator Icon series - possibly a useful solution for wider-bodied short-scales.  The ads indicate a semi-rigid construction and the video shows a fairly substantial car running over the bag.  I'm not suggesting that the bag should stand-up to such abuse, though I'd be interested to know (if any owners can comment) whether the Icon cases have a rigid plastic layer in the edges and front/back face under the ballistic nylon outer?  The video appears to show (car side view) fairly serious distortion of the case, and if I'm not mistaken, the overhead view of the car has the case face upwards, and the side-view, case face down.  Again, I'm not suggesting that the case should stand-up to being left in the road, but good to know just how rigid it is (I've always liked Protec's approach here though Protec cases are a bit narrow).

Now that is a thing of beauty. Is that the 66 Mustang that you had modified?

That’s quite the endorsement from a man who has owned some proper exotica.

Cheers, it’s really been a surprise because I wasn’t expecting to like it as much as I do. It covers so much sonic territory from 60s J to a really thick and (this is going to sound stupid) stingray-ish P sound. And I’d never have believed that a 30” scale bass could work in drop D but it sounds massive. Oh and the setup is spot on, the neck is flawless and it even smells nice 😂

Someone mentioned the Thomann Beat Bass gig bag. If mustang nicely, slightly tight on top horn but plenty of room for head and tuners £27 delivered

Fits tightly in the GruvGear Guitar Kapsulite

I couldn’t find the Kapsulite Plus which has wheels, the website shows that would be too small.

But I’ve got a Kapsule waiting for me in the US which I’m hoping will be my 1 bag travel solution for long trips.

I’ll be doing several flights with this in the hold over the next few months.

The Thomann Beatle Bass bag was great and super light but it’s a nightmare carrying on on each flight. Even when you’ve got it on, finding space for it and then people dumping suitcases on top of it. Much much easier just to check and this was the only thing I could get in Colombia (Mono was more expensive and bigger). This is shorter but wider, obviously heavier but looks really sleek so overall looks more compact.

Will see how it stands up to my next several flights.

Not sure what I’m going to do when I buy a full scale bass again 😬

(Currently have a Gruv Gear Edge, Kapsulite, Kapsule. All guitar models and each with a Mustang in them)

Kapsule is also very nice.

The Gator shown last is a bass case

The Mono sleeve is too short for a Mustang, although fits my Serek shortscale (ie a stumpy body with a 2+2 headstock).

But yeah, the Gruv Gear Edge is the best I’ve found so far.

Si

Well yes except it isn't. I carry my Mustang in the guitar sleeve (which I bought for my Telecaster) and it's a teensy weensy bit tight around the top but otherwise fits just fine.

Hello All,

FIrst, thanks to Sibob for starting this thread. I have been looking for a hard case for a Fender Player or Player II Mustang® Bass PJ and needed information and additional measurements to really check the fit.

Starting with Sibob's measurements, adding in information from Fender support and additional measurements that I took, I have created this dimensions pdf file.

I hope that this will help anyone else looking for the information.

Erik

I put the below on another similar thread, hope it can be of help

Updating this for anyone interested, the dimensions of the Gator GC-Elec-XL seem to have shrunk as the one I ordered was too small for my JMJ Mustang to fit in.

However going by a tip-off on Talkbass I ordered a Gator GW-JAG and this is fine.

Hi all, I'm shopping around for a new gig bag for my JMJ after the Fender bag it shipped with started disintegrating. Requirements are:

  • Fits a JMJ preferably with neck support (like the moveable support in the Gator Icon shots above)
  • protection on the tailpiece strap button end
  • pocket big and strong enough for a pedal
  • £150ish or less
  • available in the UK

From this and other similar threads (and again others elsewhere including TalkBass) it seems like the Gator Icon (as per @ped above - is it this one? https://www.gear4music.com/Guitar-and-Bass/Gator-ICON-Series-Bag-For-Electric-Guitars-Black/5DL2), Gator ProGo (I think Gator G-PG-ELECTRIC ?) and Gator GB-4G-JMASTER.

Are there any others that those here assembled would recommend? Couple more questions (sorry):

@tayste_2000 what's the case your JMJ is in above? is it the GruvGear Guitar Kapsulite? might be a bit rich for me, but where did you get yours? also what is the one with red trim next to it in the final photo?

Thanks!

I think this should be the ultimate for JMJs - the Gator Icon in blue:

Best price I've found is £186. Massive Tone love for anyone who can find somewhere to beat that price. Who doesn't love a Black Friday price challenge! (btw Bax doesn't count, unless you can convince me that they're actually legit and worth dealing with)

That's the one (Gear4Music). I believe it comes in grey, blue, green and beige too.

It’s a Kapsule, I picked mine up in the US. I got my Kapsulite in Bogota, Colombia. Both travel really well.

The red lined case is a Gator Bass Case so way too much space for a mustang.

I just sold both the Kapsule and Kapsulite to https://ampguitars.com yesterday because I’m moving away from shortscales. So you could get in touch and see if there is a deal to be had.

Thanks - do you mean this one? https://www.amazon.co.uk/Mono-Cases-Electric-Guitar-Case/dp/B002FKLNKO?th=1

Looks a little small for my JMJ, which is 42.5" end to end.

Can confirm, I don't have a JMJ but I have this case and tried it with my Atelier Z Baby Z-4J (which is Mustang-shaped) and although it just fits, I'm not comfortable with the stress it puts on the G-string tuner. Not recommended.

I use the Gator G-PG Double Guitar bag for my JMJ Mustang, Musicman Stingray and Sandberg Lionel and all fit safely with the bottom pad removed

Great quality bag!

Here’s a review on YouTube
