Skol303
We used to have a thread in the 'Rec forum on free plug-ins, but it got lost during the switch to the new website forum (reminds me that we should perhaps start a new one...). Lots of options to choose from and people will always recommend what they themselves use. In my case it's this - doesn't feature an octaver but is a very good bass amp sim from Softube, albeit a little expensive: https://www.softube.com/index.php?id=bar @lowdown of this parish is a long-term Cubase user and may be along to offer some DAW-specific suggestions... WinterMute
The best of the bunch are the Universal Audio set by a long way, excellent emulations of 1176 and LA2A limiters, the Distressor compressor, a whole range of EQ's and Ampeg and Eden bass rigs. Not cheap certainly although a Quad USB Satellite UAD2 box can be had on EvilBay for £300 or £400, and you get the benefit of off board DSP that doesn't tax your processor too... Waves do some good units, again, not cheap. Sadly you do get what you pay for with plug-ins.
Mcgiver69
Go to VST4FREE and see if you can find something in there
rubis
I use Mark Sudio 2 which has an Octaver on it They’ve knocked €20 off at the moment, but you can try the demo and if you are’nt in a mad rush, wait till the end of the year when these kind of things usually get reduced in price by a fair amount

lowdown
I am not sure what version of Cubase you are using, but if you have the latest (9.5), it has all the plugins you need including an Octave divider. Of course, there are a couple of duff ones in there, but mostly very good and a few that are excellent. https://www.steinberg.net/en/products/cubase/cubase_music_production_software/virtual_instruments_and_effect_plug_ins.html But, if you fancy some FREE 3rd party FX, there is a great little module worth grabbing below. Just need to provide an Email address. You can opt out of everything else and no credit card details needed - My son has been using it for a review and said It's a good 'un as well.👍 https://www.pro-tools-expert.com/home-page/2018/09/03/friday-free-plug-in-kilohearts-snapheap?mc_cid=e2c0cdf223&mc_eid=196a09f125

The six free fx are good, the others are reasonably priced. A Good Tip; thanks for sharing.
JBP
I will second Mark Studio 2. I use it all the time always sounds great and the effects are pretty good with a little tweaking.
adamg67
Another shout for Mark Studio 2 from me, I tried a few different things (not including UA though) and it came out comfortably ahead for my taste. I'm a bit of a MarkBass fan anyway though, my amp is a MarkBass Multiamp which has similar models (plus quite a few more), speakers are MB as well.
