jonunders
Hi. Do electric bass strings work well on a semi accoustic bass. I have a set of round wound fender electric strings spare and wish to replace the brass accoustic ones on my fender accoustic bass.Your thoughts please Jon
Dom in Dorset
I tried it once a thought the sound was a bit harsh and clanky. Might be ok when they are played in a bit. Also the only bass strings I ever absolutely hated were Fenders!
casapete
Hey Jon. As stated above, they will work but I've found with my Washburn AB20 the best results are with the brass coloured bronzewound strings. I use Fender 8060 phosphor bronze sets (45-100 gauge) and they're fine. Usually pay around £13-£14 a set, and they last reasonably well. Probably worth asking whether your bass is either a semi-acoustic ( like an electric with magnetic pickups etc but partly hollow body sections ), or what's called an acoustic electric (or electro acoustic) bass, which usually means it's more like an acoustic guitar - larger body etc - and often has a built in piezo bridge pickup like my Washburn. jonunders
Just double checked, it's electro accoustic

Whilst you can't do much harm trying different strings, my money would be on the bronzewounds.
Delberthot
I tried a set of Chromes on one I had last year and it sounded really good. I've never liked the sound or feel of the bronze acoustic strings
NickD
My Cheapy electric/acoustic has D'Addario Black Nylons on it. Sounds awesome, fat and dark. I can't imagine it sounding better with anything else.
