Having a quite rare Saturday night not gigging, so thought I'd watch a bit of TV. Used to think I was missing out on one of the best night's telly of the week, how wrong was I? Strictly Come Dancing - a long programme introducing C list celebs and loads of filler in between. Even Nile and Chic didn't save it for me. X-Factor - WTF? More dreadful than I remembered, with out of tune contestants being praised by all the panel. Jonathan Ross - don't mind his show normally, but why have far too many guests on at a time? Some potentially interesting people on, but too little time to get the best out of them.

If this is what a lot of the country sit and watch on a Saturday night, thank god I'm a gigging muso. Over and out.....

Netflix would be a better option... Lots of great shows to get into and only £7.99 subscription. I rarely ever watch 'actual' TV.

Yeah, you’re probably right. Got a Now TV thing, which means I can access a lot of catch up as well as other stuff. Just wanted to see what people watched live on a Saturday evening these days, and was so disappointed.

I haven't watched "live" TV for well over 5 years. Absolute dross. In fact I very rarely watch any UK TV at all now since Peter Capaldi destroyed Doctor Who and Jeremy Clarkson killed Top Gear. I think they were the last 2 UK shows I watched. Now I mostly gorge on US TV box sets.

Those who choose to stay in on a Saturday night are treated much the same as daytime viewers.  Not wanting to be derogatory or anything but when considering who makes up the daytime TV audience, the broadcasters must keep the lowest common denominator in mind.  The term dumbing down describes this.

As someone who won't pay more than licence fee for telly, I find little of value during daytime and weekends but my STB hard disk stores the out-of-hours things that are of interest.

PPV and paid subscriptions are about the best way to get your specialist interests covered.  You pay for it.

When I did that, I reckoned the paid service was advertising at me even more than the free channels so I stopped being a mug and gave it up as a big bag of commercial shyte.  The so-called premium shows get sold onto many of the free channels down the line anyway.

It's really only the early adopters who feel they need to pay for this stuff.

I bet you know who killed J R Ewing and all.

Let's not blame any of the Scots for destroying Dr Who when we all know who really killed the Dr.

Seen leaving the scene of the crime having cleared the way for former associate Chris Evans to step up.

The ginger one had lost interest by the time Ms Piper had done the deed and we then got a perky young Scot who could charm the knickers off a washing line at thirty paces.

I really liked Christopher 'Eck and all.

But I'm not bitter about it all.

Horses for courses. I liked Christopher Ecclestone, and even Matt Smith. But for me the absolute height of the show was David Tennant with Billy Piper.

Capaldi was an abomination, although to be fair it wasn't entirely his fault, because the script writing and production dropped through the floor after the hand over from Matt.

On a slightly different topic (or circling back to the original) I highly recommend Terrarium TV for anyone who's had enough of terrestrial. It's free but you will need an Android device. I've used it pretty much exclusively for the past 2 years or so. Just Google it for the download. It's brilliant!

I started watching Game of Thrones for the first time. Brother bought me the box set 2 yrs ago for Xmas. Just getting started and have to admit to enjoying it so far. I very rarely watch standard crap telly these days when its on. On rare occassions i record any good programs that might be so Sat night i usually watch something i've recorded or Prime.

I have a love hate relationship with GOT. Absolutely brilliant series, but it's an absolute head thrash trying to keep up with who's who, who belongs to which clan, who are they at war with again? and ooh, Dragons!!!

It can be really hard work. Not the kind of thing I'd watch to switch off and relax, but definitely worth sticking with.

He was down with the kids (urgh, never thought I'd have to type that phrase) though with his lickle bit o' shredding now and again.

That was when I stopped being the slightest bit interested.

I gave up with Dr who when the story arcs seemed bigger than the stories. hoping the new one reignites my interest.

Some good box sets on bbc Iplayer at the moment which they are promoting

Loads of louis theroux, tonnes of comedy ( I reccomend man like mobeen and flat tv.)

My fave prog recently has been the secret life of Landfill and the five billion pound super sewer.

You have an unusual taste in program likes Stu-khag.

Will need to google Man Like Mobeen. Not heard of that one but landfill and sewers just seem like a load of rubbish and crap to me.  :laugh1:

If I had to pick an exact moment when I said enough is enough, the guitar scene was it. Cringe worthy.

Last Night at the Proms (although not really last night at the Proms, 'cause it's on every year). Always worth a watch for me. I couldn't even face the Waste Coat vs Spain last night.

I'm one of those fortunate people that doesn't feel the need to be entertained by moving pictures. Television is complete garbage  - even when I was working in the industry, I didn't have a TV. It's just a manufactured product like packs of sausages, and about as tasteful and of equal questionable morals.

BBC TV is like a bunch of Oxbridge graduates in charge of a third rate covers band that plays Agadoo and the Birdy Song etc. And then repeats the whole lot in the second set. And the next morning.

As an ex-employee, I couldn't possibly comment. But if I were to do so, it wouldn't be to disagree with you.
