If I tried to do that, I would have runs all over the place! The painters touch spray that I'm using is quite good it does cover a lot better than some of the car paints I've used 😀
Jimothey
Once again this has changed the fella that wanted it at first now just wants a yellow Strat, Chrome hardware and an all black neck with yellow dot fret markers which is almost finished The original body of this skip find build is now being used for another commissioned build it’s going to be a Strat/Tele hybrid in Satin Black with White pickguard, black hardware and rosewood fretboard with matching black headstock Heres how it looks so far: The yellow ex- Ibby body is now going to be for me now when I get chance to finish it.........😀

Jimothey
Well the yellow strat has been finished and has been delivered and the fella is really happy with in fact he paid me more than the agreed price so that’s s bonus!! The skip find is almost ready for spraying, and on a side note I’ve just started making a Les Paul/Tele hybrid (which is for me) it’s going to be orange and it will have a Maple tele style neck and black hardware............. 😀 Edited November 6, 2019 by Jimothey
Jimothey
The skip find build (which I’ve dubbed “The Skipper”) is almost done now I’ve cut a new pickguard today as I wasn’t happy with the one in the photo but I think it’s looking good.........😀
Jimothey
I don’t use any clear coat that finish is about 4 coats of satin black which seems to be a very durable finish....,.....😀
Jimothey
Well “The Skipper” is now finished and being delivered tomorrow In true Jimothey style I decided to do a last minute change and have two humbuckers instead of a single coil at the neck 👍

I've got an image in my head of a Dukes of Hazard style Dutch barn front, red with white highlights, and a strat neck starting at the roof peak. Probably with a strat pickguard and pickups. Daisy Duke in her hot pants is also in my head now, but that's a whole other thread, probably a whole other forum...

Si600
When I get around to it, I'll be modifying what may turn out to be a firewoodbasketcaster, in that's where it'll only be good for.
Jimothey
Here’s the start of my Les Paul/Tele hybrid Barncaster type thing!!!! Its going to have a Maple/Maple neck not sure if I’m going to do a Tele style or a Les Paul style neck with relict Chrome hardware, Single coil pickup at the bridge and Humbucker at the neck I've been experimenting with ways to relic the Chrome and I've found that brick cleaner with a lump of wire wool in it gives me the finish I was looking for............😀 Edited November 28, 2019 by Jimothey
ezbass
Oh, this is already looking good. I'm pulling up a comfy chair and settling in for the coming updates.
SpondonBassed
Nice reclaim job... even for a guitar. (spits on the ground). Your next one looks, er, distressing though. I think you might have scorched it accidentally.

Funny you mentioned scorched I was thinking of going down that method but decided to stain it black and knock it back to give a kinda weathered look instead!?! It’s a good way to relieve stress as well when you start belting ten bells of poop out of it with chains and bolts then go at with a utility knife!! it’s probably going to be a bit marmite but I don’t really like the road worn look yet I like the knackered weathered timber look but we’ll have to wait and see how it turns out.........🤞 1

Although it's not a look I'd go for unless I was looking for wall dressings for a pub that does Sunday lunches, it is striking. Jimothey
I’m toying with the idea doing a fake barrel top telecaster after seeing a Big D Guitars Video on YouTube Heres a couple of ideas I’ve came up with............😀 They will be slightly aged looking with relict hardware....... Opinions please??
Jimothey
I got hold of an old scaffold board to do the body for my Telecaster build so the body blank is all glued up ready to cut tomorrow and I’m doing a Les Paul body blank as well as I’m not too sure about the other body I’ve done............🤔 Ooooohhhhh lovely and rustic!!!!!...........👍
Jimothey
Got both bodies cut this morning I've decided to make the fake branding slightly smaller than my mock-up I need to make up some ageing solution to try and get the sides the same colour as the top I’ve read that mixing white vinegar with some bits of wire wool will make it go the kinda silvery colour but I’ll see how it comes out.............🤞 Edited December 6, 2019 by Jimothey
Jimothey
Here’s the body after a couple of coats of tinted Danish Oil on the sides and plain Danish Oil on top, I’m going to sand the top back a little bit so the colour will probably lighten a bit.......... I’m now in two minds whether to bother with the fake branding or just do it like a standard barncaster with a pickguard I’m thinking for the pickguard either aged White or Black??? Opinions please??
