The "Total Mass Retain" segment from the song "Close to the Edge". I've mentioned it before. but at the time it was a moment of: "Can that even be done?"

Apparently, it could:

Not heard that in such a long time. Was probably my fav YES album. That and Going For The One. Thanks for posting. Gonna have a wee listen to that album now. It just brings back so many great memories of that era.

Not my favourite bass line, not even my favourite Stranglers bass line, but, the best bass intro to a song and the best bass sound too. One of my favourite album covers as well...

Probably my favourite Stranglers album. Tremendous.

Likewise, this and New Boots and Panties were 2 albums I listened to throughout most of my youth.

Henceforth - favourite bassline is probably Hit me with your rhythm stick.

There are many, but this one is just special to me. A genius on guitar and a bass player creating a new way of playing a very tradicional music. It’s just magical.

The terrific Carles Benavent on Bass? Fantastic playing all round with a lovely style.

Thanks for reminding me to save to Spotify. 👍

:D

Agreed. My "If you could only have ONE album" Album.  Sheer musical genius, and prog to boot.

Danuman you just reminded me of this. Probably the best finger style for the record bass playing I've ever heard. Apart from some of James Jamerson's playing .

This would have to be my choice Willie Weeks....stunning.

Here's another of mine:

It occurs to me that I tend to favour either melodic, busy, driving lines (Entwistle, Squire etc) or very simple, hypnotic ones....

If we're talking Japan, this is one of my all time favourite singles, and the only track ever that was guaranteed to get me on a dance floor, with the possible exception of Night Fever or Staying Alive😉:
