I know right šŸ˜‚ (joke!)

Ā

no seriously, Iā€™ve always admired good drummers, wish Iā€™d have realised it at a young age and learned to play them properly.

Anyway the reason for this post is because of a 4 part programme on Sky Arts - The Art Of Dumming. The 2nd one is on now but itā€™s probably on catch up. I caught the first one last night and Iā€™d recommend watching it.

Interviews and clips of themĀ playing fromĀ a wide spectrum ofĀ drummers, and the historiesĀ of common patterns and grooves and how they developed.Ā

I was a drummer, but i'm all right now. No, I mean I come from a drumming background and playing the bass was a real eye opener for me. It makes my understanding of drumming and bass playing, with regard to the rhythm section, so much better. Playing bass has improved my drumming.

Mickey Hart ( of the Grateful Dead ) 's book " Drumming at the Edge of Magic " gets good reviews .

Often called "Drumming at the Edge of Madness" :)

Proving the theory that 'It's all about the hang' I've become the on call dep drummer for a band of pro musicians round here. I've not really played the drums for 10 years despite a kit being setup permanently in my studio.

I need to get my hats back from our drummer and practice I suppose.
