So as of this morning I have purchased my first Spector.  Should be with me soon.  In the meantime, lets have some Friday bass porn....  Now to go on the hunt for gold hardware!

This was on Limelight Mark's site, Classic and Cool Guitars, right? I was eyeing that up if so, even without pictures! 😉

These special edition gloss finish Euros are fantastic, all maple I believe like the US models, instead of the maple/walnut/alder sandwich on the standard LX.

I tried one out in Guitar Guitar, exactly the same, and I swear it sounded just like the Kramer NS-2 I used to have, even with the tonepump preamp instead of the Haz.

Thats the one mate.  Im always scouring sites like Richones 2nd hand, bass direct and C&C.  I saw it mentioned in the 'coming soon' section so dropped him an email. Very friendly, helpful and approachable guy.  Several emails later and the deed was done.  Ive stuck a large layaway deposit on it until next week when ill pay it off and find a hiding place from the wife :)

EURO 5LX PJ RAS-LAYER

Not sure about the Nord pups vs trad EMGs and those plastic knobs are meh. But the reverse-PJ format in a 5er is lush.

Only available in Japan?

Man, that finish looks great. Fortunately (for my bank account), I do not play 5 string basses

Yes, as far as I know these are only available in Japan, this is a kind of signature model from what I have gathered. Traditionally the Japaneese market always had some extra Euro specimens  especially with unique finishes so this can be another special run / sig model for local market.

looks killer anyway 😍

So she arrived 🥰🥰. Lovely bass, slightly deeper neck than i expected but will soon get used to that coming from a 50’s P bass. Ordered some GHS pressurewounds for her and think I will go down the gold hardware route (bridge and tuners). Going to have an amplified tinker later with the tonepump through the SVT but for now im in love!  My Spector cherry is popped

Very nice @Pow_22

If you dob't mind me asking, what did it cost you please?

£1,300 from Classic and Cool.  Possibly a tad on the dear side but have been after one for a while and don't see this come up very often in this colour and specs.

Thanks for the info. You say a bit dear but a new Euro 4 LX is around, or above, the £2k mark now!

As a side note I notice bass/music gear seem to have jumped in price recently, both new & used. e.g. a new Fender Custom Shop Precision Bass, '57 reissue, relic finish is £3.6k with Guitar Guitar at the moment!

I'm putting the general increases down to the weakness of £ in the couple of years before you-know-what. But now that is behind us and £ has strengthened again, fingers crossed we will start to see a reversal of those price jumps.

Jesus H Christ!  Its my first active bass in a while and I forgot.  Plugged it into my SVT which I had set at 'normal' home volume for my Peavey passive bass....I just hit an open E and I now owe Mrs Pow a new dinner plate set! That is PHENOMINALLY loud!  Will defo be tweaking that tonepump when I get more play time later

If your Tonepump has the little trim control wheel on it (look at the black box inside the electronics cavity), set the trimpot clock to halfway for starters. This will make your overall output much more usable and less likely to distort with more extreme EQ settings on your Tonepump. Enjoy!

@Pow_22 some really useful tips at the start of this thread, in case you've not already seenSpector TonePump - Bass Guitars - Basschat (ignore the usual Krow thread hi-jack towards the end!)

Dialling back the TonePump has been bit of a game-changer for me with my Spector. Has transformed it from really good --> outstanding.

PS I now see that's a thread you're already familiar with, given your Blondie post right at the start!

Mark at Bass Direct has managed to find a gold bridge for me!  At £130 they aren't cheap are they!  Hope I can offset the cost by flogging my chrome one

Definitely not cheap. I guess there isn't a big market for aftermarket Spector bridges so no wonder they cost steep.

Yeah, not cheap but I think it will look killer and maybe make the bass a bit lighter too (as it did for my 77):

Ohhhm, that is quite a difference. Is it that the gold coated is aluminium and the chrome is brass/zink or whatever the exact alloy is....

Could be but I don't know to be honest.

Wow, that is quite a difference. Maybe i could sell My old one as scrap to get melted down to cover the cost of a new gold one!
