Eldon Tyrell Posted August 28, 2024 Posted August 28, 2024 Let's see what they'll come up with. Looking forward to it! From BassMagazine: https://bassmagazine.com/spector-welcomes-frank-bello-of-anthrax-to-their-family-of-artists/ "Spector® welcomes Anthrax bass legend, Frank Bello to its artist roster. Anthrax is one of the most influential thrash metal bands of all time and Bello’s brutal bass riffs have been the driving force behind that success for forty years. Spector is currently developing the Frank Bello signature bass and it will be released in 2025. In the meantime, Frank will be exclusively playing Spector basses for rehearsals, recording, and on the upcoming European tour this November during Anthrax’s co-headlining tour with German thrash titans Kreator with Bay Area thrashers, Testament. “I am so psyched to join the Spector family- a place that already feels like home for me! The great people at Spector listened and contributed to every last detail that I was looking for in a bass- and I am truly so excited for everybody to see what we’ve come up with. It was great to have the opportunity to bring some Spector basses on tour to give them a test run, and I can honestly say- they checked all the boxes, and then some… Good times ahead, my friends- Let’s do this!! “Stated Bello. As Taylor McLam, Spector’s Artist Relations says, “We are honored to welcome Frank Bello into the Spector family. Having a NYC thrash metal legend like Frank playing a legendary NYC brand like Spector is truly a match made in heaven—or should I say, hell?” There will be much, much more coming from this monster metal alliance. Spector continues to be the bass that touring musicians love to play. Check out www.spectorbass.com for up-to-the-minute updates on this and all things Spector." 5 Quote

Ian likes the Antigua finish. He has a 78 Fender and Olinto made him one in Goldtigua. Not my cup of tea, to be honest. I used to have Spectors with fancy tops, solid highly figured maple wings, natural, walnut etc. However, my actual favs are the solid colours: black and white! Probably because of Eddie Jackson and Mike Starr. 1 Quote

Yes, cool video and Ian is an Empire guy, but I would have preferred a track from Operation Mindcrime. Fortunately, there is this cool headless guy on YT 😁 who delivers a fab cover of one of my fav Queensryche songs, which is perfect for Valentine's Day. BTW, great Kramer era black NS-2 that would go so well with my white Mike Starr bass *wink* *wink* 😜 2 1 Quote

Raslee Posted September 8, 2024 Posted September 8, 2024 Need some help please Spectorites - What do you guys do for d-tuners on the newer (2021+) Spector Euro’s? I’ve recently bought an RST and was thinking about the Hipshot GB7 detuner/xtender but I think the peg (shaft bit), is thicker on my Spector tuner, and also the tuner heads are different patterns - are they interchangeable as again they look different? The tuners are Gotoh’s on my RST. TIA. 1 Quote

The shaft on the GB7 has 11mm diameter but comes with a bushing that has 14mm diameter, in theory that should be a drop in replacement but probably the only way to be 100% sure is to nuke the site from orbit to take of the peg and measure the hole diameter in the headstock. 1 Quote

Eldon Tyrell Posted September 21, 2024 Posted September 21, 2024 Today, I came across this nice long interview with Stuart and PJ. Great to see them again. They talk about their new line of acoustic guitars and basses (Esopus), but also about the history of the Spector brand, share some anecdotes (incl. skull shaped inlays made out of the bones of Tibetan monks!) and show some cool basses (including the March 77 prototype of the NS-1, the 75 SB-1 that preceded the NS-1 and the first NS 5 string (look at the pickups!). Cool stuff 👍 https://www.fugu.com/Pages/Players/VideoPlayerFull?enc=kGmw4xfyQX4VbI%2fOEJzlA%2flA1nLJbSTYiIQgXDtnwaE%3d 4 2 Quote
Eldon Tyrell Posted September 27, 2024 Posted September 27, 2024 New Spector custom shop collection (for Guitar Summit in Mannheim this weekend). Not sure about these, a bit of a gamble 😉 4 Quote
Eldon Tyrell Posted November 29, 2024 Posted November 29, 2024 Not much happening here. What about some good Black Friday deals? Very tempting (esp. the red Euro 4X), just no funds available for any of them 😞 Quote
Sean Posted January 1 Posted January 1 (edited) I've just got back into Spector basses. Pushed the button on a used Euro LX 4 today. I think I sold my last Spector over 10 years ago. I had a 2008 Euro LX 4 in blue that I really regret selling and I can't remember why I sold it, just one of those whims we get, I suppose. I had a 2005 NS 5, natural, oiled, more bird's-eye maple than I've ever seen before. I tried and tried but just couldn't live with those 35" G and D strings, too taught for me. What an incredible thing, though and such great tone. I also had a couple of Euro LX 5s but since they're physically the same, I gave up on the 35" necks and sold them too. I was chatting to a dear friend at a gig back in the summer and he asked (taking the p155 as ever) if I regretted selling any basses. There were just two, the blue LX 4 and another that wasn't a Spector. Anyway, I've been trawling around for a couple of months and have finally found something. I'll post some pics and some comments when it arrives at the weekend. In the meantime, Happy New Year. Edited January 2 by Sean 3 Quote

The tuners are Gotoh’s on my RST. TIA. I've been looking into this as I have Xtenders on all my main basses. A lot of Euro LX 4s have Gotoh GB707 tuners, as does my inncoming 2018. Hipshot sells the GB7 as an Xtender. This has a different shaped key. You can either buy the GB7 and have an odd shaped tuner key, replace your other tuners with GB7s to match (expensive) or, as I'm going to do, forget about it and do it the old fashioned way. Some say that you can get Hipshot to make one out of a GB707 for you. I bet that's very expensive. Quote
