ianrendall
So, hopefully pulling the trigger soon on a Sadowsky Satin. To sate my appetite for a new bass until then, I have a 2014 Fiesta Red 50s RW coming tomorrow. And until then, I’d love some examples of great P bass tone. I’ll start with this one. It’s this very track that gave me GAS for a P.
Muzz
P-Tone, you say? GAS-inducing, you say? This is track that made me pick up a bass...15 seconds in... 😁

chris_b
For a great P bass sound listen to Bob Babbitt on Midnight Train To Georgia, Vernie Robbins on Mr Big Stuff and Duck Dunn on Mr Pitiful.
ianrendall
I just absolutely love that little burpy barp noise about 18 seconds in on the vid I posted. The tiny thumpy ‘pwmp’ of what sounds like breakup at the start of the note. Compression? Slight overdrive? Valvey cream? paul_5
I’m not a P player by any means, but’I’ve always loved the P bass sound on Frank Zappa’s ‘Broadway the Hard Way’ and ‘Tinseltown Rebellion’ albums; different players (Scott Thuned and Arthur Barrow respectively) but both do a fine job. Geddy bought his first Rickenbacker with the record company advance straight after.
