tthiggins
I think this is a p but it has a certain acoustic quality to it .the solo at the end (4.56) is killer

Jonse
Yeah, not the biggest fan of Thin Lizzy, but the tone on 'Live and Dangerous' is huge.

LewisK1975
Is Kansas' Carry on Wayward Son done on a precision? I think so, but a lot of people seem to think it's a Ric. And here's a youtube Isolated Bass:

I don't think Dave Hope ever played a Rick, but he did switch to Steinbergers later on. MattM
Those of us who learned in the mid 80s (with a pick) owe a debt to: And And finally, in the early 90s by Bob Moulds (ex of the seminal Husker Du) Sugar: Edited September 28, 2018 by MattM

I've played it on all sorts of basses and it lends itself well to each different bass tone. Still best on a p bass though, i had a 96 fender usa special edition (the most p bass, p bass I ever heard lol) which nailed it.

Jonny Boots
I know it's not a particularly fancy base line but I really like the sound.

You have to get the action right so when you dig in the frets add to the tone. I think his D string is close to fretting out. A Marshall Super Bass on the edge of breakup helps get that bottley sound too. A well setup Precision bass where the action can go low is a thing to behold for rock. Oh my word...Dat Growl...and a good example of EQ-ing for the band sound: I love Billy's tone in the band, but solo'd it's very harsh.
