NancyJohnson Posted October 9, 2018 Posted October 9, 2018 (edited) Reeeeeeead all abaht it! Reeeeeeead all abaht it! Rush in another 40th Anniversary reissue fever! etc. I can't believe (it's not butter) it's actually 40 years since this came out. Man alive, I had my whole freaking life ahead of me. Needless to say, many versions coming from the Super Deluxe (CD/Vinyl/Bluray 5.1) to a stripped back digital version. I would have chewed your arm off for the additional content back then, but I'll admit my interest was already really starting to wane at that point and I wasn't even out of my teens then. [subtle edit: I'd recently discovered Japan...there was more than enough in those first two albums to turn my head from Canadian Progressive to Catford punkyfunk.] Now? I'll just have a cursory listen on Spotify as and when it drops. https://www.bassplayer.com/artists/rush-celebrates-the-40th-anniversary-of-hemispheres-with-reissue Edited October 9, 2018 by NancyJohnson 1 Quote
HengistPod Posted October 9, 2018 Posted October 9, 2018 Hemispheres is my personal peak Rush, absolutely love every note of it. I might have to spring for this one - mostly for the 5.1 - though I avoided the previous 2112 and Farewell re-issues. Really not keen on the whole "new artwork" thing they're doing with these, mind. Wilco Posted October 9, 2018 Posted October 9, 2018 There can never be too many Rush re-issues. Or Rush stuff period 😁 This + Geddy’s new bass book are defo on my Crimbo list! 1 Quote

Daz39 Posted October 9, 2018 Posted October 9, 2018 Oof - I looooove Hemispheres. It's a glorious peak of noodling. My current favourite re-release is Replay x3 with 3 live tour dvds and the GUP tour CD - it's utterly awesome. Quote
wateroftyne Posted October 9, 2018 Posted October 9, 2018 I love this album. Pretty gutted to have to shell out silly money to get the blu-ray. Quote
Skybone Posted October 9, 2018 Posted October 9, 2018 I remember buying the misprint vinyl version, and being absolutely gutted. Well, i was rather young at the time. With the benefit of hindsight, i really should have kept it, but I wanted to listen to the whole album, not just the B side. Quote
spongebob Posted October 9, 2018 Posted October 9, 2018 Love Hemispheres, superb album. You can see why they changed after this - it's hard to top the over-the-top nature of side 1! I first heard it about 30 years ago, and still dig it out on occasion. I think they got better afterwards - but it's still a stone-cold classic, and I guess the end of the first era of the band. I'd love to see some more archived live sets released from the band.....a complete Hemispheres first side, if that exists....or another 'Different Stages' type-package. Must be loads out there. Quote
Skybone Posted October 9, 2018 Posted October 9, 2018 The old tale is that they wrote the album & recorded it, but only realised when Geddy came to do the vocals, that they'd written it in the wrong key for his voice. Quote
Woodinblack Posted October 9, 2018 Posted October 9, 2018 I love the album. Had it on picture disk so I will avoid the re-issue like the plague, as I have yet to come across a re-issue that isn't a butchered mess. Quote

And I'll add to that a money making con for completists. 1 Quote
cetera Posted October 10, 2018 Posted October 10, 2018 Fantastic album...... though my all time fave Rush album is Farewell To Kings! Not sure I'll get it.... but will probably buy Geddy's Big Book Of Bass :) 1 Quote
martthebass Posted October 11, 2018 Posted October 11, 2018 Ditto, was never a big fan of Hemispheres - loved one side not the other, guess it was a game of 2 halves I'm with you on FTK - definitely my favourite Rush album. 1 Quote
Rayman Posted October 15, 2018 Posted October 15, 2018 Is nobody else a bit old school like me, and just prefer the original unaltered releases (whoever they're by) as nature first intended? I love Rush too, but remixes, reworking, unreleased bonuses et al just gets on my tits. The remastered "Never Mind The Bollocks" sounded pants... the original warts and all had the vibe, the rehash really didn't. I'm not bitter like. Quote

Daz39 Posted October 15, 2018 Posted October 15, 2018 It depends: if the remix/remaster/whatever has bonus tracks (like the Yes reissues) then that usually swats it for me. In some instances, e.g. Vapor Trails; it’s like two separate albums, such are the differences, which is a plus. 1 Quote
