anzoid
Via this article from the Guardian: https://www.theguardian.com/music/2018/oct/30/the-buggles-how-we-made-video-killed-the-radio-star You can either have the original. According to Geoff Downes: "Bruce [Woolley] tried to stop our version of Video and released his more straightforward version [as Bruce Woolley & the Camera Club] before ours, but it wasn’t a hit." Or the copy: Personally, kinda liking the Bruce Woolley version, though the Buggles one is still the winner. So: who knew the Bruce Woolley version even existed, and can we talk about Trevor Horn's bass playing...? 1
BigRedX
I knew about the Bruce Wooley version mainly because he went to the same school as me.
dmccombe7
I've never heard the original but its good in its own right. The Buggles version is much more commercialised but both are versions of a fantastic song. Like both of them. Bass line in original is better IMO. dmccombe7
The more i listen to the original the more i like it over the Buggles version. Its more musical to me. More modern sounding too.
mentalextra
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BVyt8ZlTt8g Always like the bass line on this, but is this Trevor Horn playing?

BTW the Dollar track linked to above was also co-written by Bruce Woolley.
Drax
Nice article. Big fan of Trevor Horn. Have played Video.. (Trevor Horn version) live, it’s a complex beast Edited October 30, 2018 by Drax
NancyJohnson
The English Garden album is a tremendous thing. Matthew Seligman on bass too. Win win. I still have my B Woolley Minded badge somewhere too.

More so than the Woolley version which made me feel slightly seasick, dunno why, maybe it was the bassline or the arrangement Edited October 30, 2018 by skankdelvar

Used to play it live back in the 90s. But the Buggles version is hot, too ...

el borracho
One of The Buggles follow up singles - Clean, Clean - had also previously been released as a Bruce Woolley single.

kevin_lindsay
And here's Trevor playing the tune live for the first time - 25 years after the single was released. He also introduces Bruce Woolley as "an original Buggle", he's in the band on stage.
