musicbassman Posted November 7, 2018 Posted November 7, 2018 Just back from a couple of weeks in Vietnam and Malaysia. Went to a 'cultural show' in Hoi An and the resident band were all on traditional acoustic instruments - except for this guy! (Sorry for poor quality - this was zoomed in from way back in the auditorium). Quote
Hellzero Posted November 7, 2018 Posted November 7, 2018 Good luck to find the maker as quite all instruments are home made in these regions... Quote
stingrayPete1977 Posted November 8, 2018 Posted November 8, 2018 Did he get to the gig in a kayak? Quote
Grahambythesea Posted November 8, 2018 Posted November 8, 2018 I think the headstock doubles for a shovel to get himself out of the situation! Quote

josie Posted November 8, 2018 Posted November 8, 2018 It does make me wonder though if we're missing some interesting possibilities in headstock designs. I've just found these - I'm just imagining a headstock carved in the shape of a dragon's head. (The head of my dragon tattoo is in the outline shape of a GMR headstock.) Quote
kodiakblair Posted November 8, 2018 Posted November 8, 2018 The headstock shape must be traditional. This fella turns up in a few Google photo searches playing the " Đàn tứ dây " (Vietnamese bass guitar) 3 Quote
Hellzero Posted November 8, 2018 Posted November 8, 2018 If it's Đàn tứ dây, no need to do it tomorrow. I'll get my coat... 1 2 Quote
Hellzero Posted November 8, 2018 Posted November 8, 2018 Just for the record, Đàn tứ dây simply means 4 strings (wires, in fact) and the headstock shape is also simply traditional for this instrument whatever body shape. 1 1 Quote

What bit of "The headstock shape must be traditional." in my post did you feel needed explaining ? Quote

To be fair, there is a potential ambiguity in this phrasing. One could read 'I'm not sure, but my instinct tells me that it must be traditional', or, 'It is mandatory that it be traditional'. It would appear that some have read the former when your intentions seems to have been the latter. Hope this helps; a simple misunderstanding, s'all. 1 Quote

kodiakblair Posted November 9, 2018 Posted November 9, 2018 Not much of an improvement on this one either. Quote
