Chownybass
Both curious (and a bit of market research as we'll be making some straps). The ribbon artwork is only 2" wide... so a wider strap means putting a border on them. So just trying to find out what people like. How wide do you like your bass guitar strap?
Teebs
As wide as possible for me - although I think most of my straps are 2.5", which are perfectly comfortable. What designs are you looking at? Exciting! Edited November 7, 2018 by Teebs sbelling

But since you ask : 1
Teebs
Thanks! They look really nice! Quite unusual too. I'd definitely be interested when they're out - even at 2". Edited November 7, 2018 by Teebs
Frank Blank
I'm with @Teebs as wide as possible and personally I've never purchased a patterned strap.
Norris
I only ever use a Comfort Strapp. They are wide and made of neoprene and elastic. Not as colourful as yours though
Paul S
3" is ideal for me but it can vary according to the material it is made from. Wider is nice of if is well cushioned and soft.
Marc S
I've voted for 2.5". Though, depending on the strap material, I also wouldn't mind 2" My favoured straps are very very soft leather and around 2.5" wide But I also have a 2" wide Fender soft leather strap, and that's lovely too - although I tend to have that on a lighter weight bass I agree with Paul S above.... I don't mind wider, if the strap is soft I've tried harder leather straps, and wider seems less comfortable when it's 3" +
bassbiscuits
The wider the better for me - currently using Comfort Strapp and a wide Levy's leather softee (3-5 to 4-inch wide i think) Love the colourful designs tho. Really cool. Edited November 7, 2018 by bassbiscuits
Lozz196
2" for me, use Jim Dunlop nylon ones, if they`re good enough for Duff McKagan they`re good enough for me - well it`s as good a theory/rationalisation as anything else I spose. ambient
I don’t do inches. I like the comfort strap; so however wide that is.

Hellzero
The one and only strap I still use is the good old Gerald Reese Slapstrap which is 3.75 inches wide. Have it for at least 10 years, but now I'm playing sitted most of the time without any strap... But when one is needed, I use this old buddy. The only thing I don't like about it is its colour : stupid black leather. Edited November 7, 2018 by Hellzero Forgot the verb...

bartelby
I've had a 4" wide soft leather strap, off ebay, for about 10 years. It's the only strap for basses I have and I'd like another 1, or 2, that similar. But being vegan now I don't want leather.
Twigman
I have 4" wide soft leather straps by Minotaur
discreet
I have a custom handmade, hand-stitched leather Skin-Job strap which is 4.25" at its widest point. Any wider than that and it would start to chafe my neck. It is suede-backed to prevent slippage. This is important - a smooth, slippy strap is a pain in the bum, regardless of width. But in general wide straps are good, they make a heavy bass seem lighter and a light bass seem like nothing.

Shambo
I use 2" Souldier straps which are made from old car seatbelts with patterns stiched on to one side. They're not cheap but I buy them because I think they have the best pattern designs... the upcyling thing is a bonus.
PoppaJoe
I use at least 3" straps but I always make sure to get thick leather ones.

Obviously. I had a Mono Strap a few years back* and didn't really get on with it. (*10 years back in fact. I was trying to replace the 4" leather strap back then. Even though I wasn't vegan. I bought it from Bass Direct, and was told I was putting it on bass that didn't really need it... 😆 But that's a whole other thread...)
itu
My leather straps are around pi" wide. Inside is cotton (kente from Ghana) that keeps the bass in place. There is some felt in between which absorbs sweat and keeps the strap always warm.

It takes the weight of my 9+ lb. jazz so much better than previous narrower strap.
