Dazed Posted November 9, 2018 Posted November 9, 2018 I havenāt been around here much lately....... protecting my wallet š so first off HelloĀ For the last coupleĀ of years Iāve had a thing for a small bodied headless bass. Compact, light-ish weight, portable, ideally 5 or even 6 string.Ā Iāve always liked headless basses, likedĀ the Hohner Jack Ā I ownedĀ 25+ years ago. Often think of picking up a Steinberger type but as far as I know the 5ās have a narrowish string spacing which I canāt get along with and there isnāt a 6. Ā There isnāt much out there really that ticks all those boxes. I did own aĀ Streamline briefly and for whatever reason really didnāt enjoy it, more the tone than anything else if I recall. So,Ā I visited here earlier in the week and had a mooch around, ended up in the For Sale areaĀ as usual(!) andĀ I came across a posted link to something and ended up on the bass direct website.Ā There I found this! Ā http://bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/Ash_Instruments_Six_Headless.html Iām intrigued! It doesnāt look particularly comfortable to play- no lower cutaway, so I guess a strap is always required and I donāt love the shape,Ā colour and a few other things šĀ Iām curious if any of you have been in there lately and seen it or actually played this thing and had an opinion to share? therealting Posted November 9, 2018 Posted November 9, 2018 If that had a normal body, Iād be very interested! Quote
ped Posted November 9, 2018 Posted November 9, 2018 They do some very nice looking instruments. I really like their single cutaway basses but havenāt ever seen one. Perhaps theyāll attend LBGS next year.Ā Quote
djc63 Posted November 10, 2018 Posted November 10, 2018 Have a look at the Facebook page for Ash instruments. I think there's some pictures of that particular bass during construction. Also there's lots of pictures of their other creations, all of which are quite stunning in my opinion, real works of art!Ā 1 Quote
Grahambythesea Posted November 14, 2018 Posted November 14, 2018 String spacing looks pretty narrow.Ā Quote
marcblum Posted July 14, 2019 Posted July 14, 2019 I don't recognize any significant tonal differences between bridge(Humbucker), bridge(Single), bridge+neck. For everything funky or pop this seems to be great bass, Fusion too. Quote
ead Posted July 14, 2019 Posted July 14, 2019 (edited) ACG Border Reiver maybe.Ā Not seen a 6er but Alan has made a 5er Ā Edited July 14, 2019 by ead Quote
