Jono Bolton
Does anyone have any recommendations for where I can find an old, high mass brass bridge like the one pictured? I've always liked the look of them but so far my searching hasn't returned any results.
fleabag
I have limited knowledge of old vintage brass bridges, but one i know for sure, was the '80s Aria SB basses. But they used very narrow string gauge, something 16.5 mm That could well be too narrow for you and too narrow for a P bass ( if that's what you play ) and the strings probably wont line up over the P pickup poles Having said that, they're as rare as chicken molars to find. Most people dont strip then off their vintage Aria SB axes
Jonse
I've had a look for one in the past, found nothing recently. There was a Japanese brand called 'Double Eagle' which, apparently, used to make quality replacement parts. Not sure if they got as far as the UK though. BigRedX
What you need to go is go to an old-school music shop (the sort of establishment that is termed "Mom & Pop" in the US) and ask if they have one in the box of random guitar bits. If they have it will probably be a bargain as well.
three
These do come up, though only very rarely - there was a plate (without saddles) on Reverb for around £100. Very impressive, robust bridges though frequently in rough condition. I'm a big fan of the Precision Special - nicely built and very powerful but often very heavy. I managed to damage the circuit in mine so sold the bass cheaply - I should have either kept it or taken off some of the lovely hardware. umcoo
I picked up one of the Double Eagle brass bridges off here a while back. Only every seen one other for sale on Reverb. Doesn't seem to be much info about them at all, other than good quality Japanese stuff from the 70's and 80's.
