HIWATT cabs, Celestion Vs Fane??

Hiwatt offers Fane speakers as a Custom option in their high end cabinets, at extra cost. What is the REAL sound/quality difference? Are we payng just to have the "made in England" tag? Any experince will be appreciated!! Thanks.

How strange.  Original Hiwatt cabs all had Fane speakers as standard.  Fane pop 50s if I remember correctly.  The same as Sound City.

Maybe that was years ago. Currently uk made hiwatts come standard with celestion, Fane as custom option.

If one knew exactly which drivers are offered it would be a simple matter to determine if it was worth paying more for Fane. I very much doubt that Hiwatt would be forthcoming with that information.

I didnt realise Fane were considered High End / Custom option. But i do now, so my DIY 1 x 15  600 watt  Fane cab is now ' High End '

I think way back Fanes had bigger magnets and cast frames. They could still be blown out with a 100w head and only one cabinet. Celestions (and all brands really) have gotten harder to blow. The 75w Celestions in a Marshall 1960 (UK made) 412 can survive any 100w head. Fane now have some 150w 12" gtr speakers with big magnets. For bass check out Celestion neo 8" and 10" speakers. I want some Celestion 10s for an old Ampeg cabinet .

If I remember correctly, the 80s Trace Elliots had Fane speakers loaded in them.

I'll check that. I have a 4 x 10 Mk Vl  combo that i'll be selling the  speakers out of.  I just assumed they were celestions before looking
