Rikki_Sixx Posted November 18, 2018 Posted November 18, 2018 (edited) My little 30 watt Laney combo has seriously crackly pots at the moment. I’ve encountered this before after long periods where it’s gone unused and got a bit dusty. Twiddling the knobs (ey up) cleared it up last time, but I noticed this week that all the knobs are crackling and popping. There are 6 pots and it affects them all. Sometimes turning any of them causes the volume to dip, or the sound to warble a bit. Is this something that I could repair at home? If I needed to take this to be service, cleaned or repaired would it likely be expensive? I’m hoping I won’t have to open her up and do any soldering, and if it’s an expensive fix I might have to look at getting a cheap replacement! 10+ years of service, she’s done well! BreadBin Posted November 18, 2018 Posted November 18, 2018 (edited) Get yourself some of this If you open the amp up the pots should have a small hole you can liberally squirt it into, rotate them fully whilst spraying. Wait a short while before switching back on. Edited November 18, 2018 by BreadBin More info Quote
Lozz196 Posted November 18, 2018 Posted November 18, 2018 (edited) Start off with carefully applying some Servisol Super 10 spray onto the pots, it may clear this up. I think I got mine off Amazon. Ha - pretty much a duplicate post of the above. Edited November 18, 2018 by Lozz196 Quote
Rikki_Sixx Posted November 18, 2018 Author Posted November 18, 2018 Thanks both of you! As you both suggested that pretty much simultaneously it’ll be the first thing I’ll try. Would I need to open the amp up to get to the electrics, or just take off the knobs and spray on from the front? Quote

fleabag Posted November 19, 2018 Posted November 19, 2018 Yup, and spin it back and forth as you spray ( matron ) Quote
Andytre Posted November 20, 2018 Posted November 20, 2018 I use colclene PCS at work to keep 10+ amps from crackling (some about 25 years old), on the back it says its for missile guidance systems so gota be good! Quote
