I settled for a new bass instead but will be back soonest they have one to try and perhaps buy. https://www.thomann.de/gb/mesa_boogie_subway_wd_800.htm

Thomann are usually pretty reliable on gear that's actually available and gear that's due?

HazBeen
My German buddy lives close to Thomann. It is in stock he said. But who cares, it is just going to be “so close yet not up to my BB750”. I am keeping my heavy amp for pup gigs (and go FRFR for bigger stages). I'd love a high powered walkabout, but would still hanker after a big box. Going back to Ampeg, SVT-II non-pro incoming
scalpy
Bass Direct advertising in stock at £1299. Makes the Monique Tardis on here look even more tempting.
krispn
Bdonkey Direct advertising in stock at £1299. Makes the Monique Tardis on here look even more tempting. Just back from gigging it. Big, tube di sound to the desk which made my humble bass (playing) sound great out front if the sound man is to be believed. agedhorse
There sure appears be a lot of negative comments and speculation here on this side of the pond about an amp that you guys have never even played. Not sure why, but here's a video from a player in Germany who spent some time and effort to create something that might help you understand this amp a bit more:
Muzz
Lovely tones, right up my street, but unfortunately I don't need to play one to know that £1300 is waaayyyyy too much...I'll stick with my Walkabout... 😕

Not sure that folk over here are being negative about the quality and ability of this new amp, agedhorse. I think it's much more to do with being priced out of being able to get one. We Brits don't, on average, get paid any better than our US cousins (probably a fair bit less in fact if we're talking about averages), but the cost in $ for the WD-800 over here is $1,715. That is going to sting a lot of folk in the pocket.

Yep, $999 in the USA, it’s a pretty big difference
Muzz
$999 = £754 I'd buy one at that.

Tbf you need to add shipping, customs duty and VAT on top, none of which Mesa will get to see. That gets you to around £950 to £1k. Then add in the UK retailer's cut. So is it actually Mesa or the UK retailers who are making the big margins on this?
Muzz
I'd expect a big company to build export costs into their pricing a bit better than that, to be honest.

Exactly, in the days when different US and UK power voltages needed to be taken into account fair enough, but a £300 mark up? I love Mesa gear, but at times think they must be pissing themselves at the prices they get away with over here

Not £1,299.
