boroman Posted December 10, 2018 Posted December 10, 2018 I barely hear any difference between 1960's EB2's bariton switch pressed/depressed. I mean, If I hear its more like " I think I hear something" but not much, really. Are these all like that or mine is bad? I was told it's good working and the difference between on/off is super small. Right? Wrong? Quote
goingdownslow Posted December 11, 2018 Posted December 11, 2018 There should be a very noticeable difference between the two positions, volume and tone wise. If you are only getting the 'one' sound I couldn't say without hearing whether it is the Baritone or the choked sound you are getting. Quote
Grahambythesea Posted December 11, 2018 Posted December 11, 2018 I had one some years ago , a 1966 model. When I got it the switch didn’t work, but I got it replaced at the old (and late lamented) Bass Centre in Wapping, and it worked with avengence! The contrast was enormous, the full fat version was totally over powering. Sounds like yours isn’t working. Quote
josie Posted December 12, 2018 Posted December 12, 2018 Mine sounds like two completely different basses - quite light and clear with the boost off, and massive thump and growl with it on. Quote
boroman Posted December 13, 2018 Author Posted December 13, 2018 Thanks. so I might look at it... Quote
Grahambythesea Posted December 15, 2018 Posted December 15, 2018 This was my experience of the bass boost. Far too much! I didn’t much like the neck either, but I still feel nostalgic for one, but not at the ridulicous prices they now sell for. Quote
josie Posted December 15, 2018 Posted December 15, 2018 I don't expect ever to get my EB2 here from Nashville (where my son is "looking after it for me") but I'm pretty happy with the Epiphone Jack Casady I've had for a couple of weeks now. The three-position tone switch does make a useful difference to the sound but not as extreme as the EB2 baritone. Its other big advantage is that I can relax about gigging it - the EB2 is just too fragile and valuable to take out. Quote
