Great show and very informative as well.. Sheila E was absolutely brilliant, but then I've always been a fan of hers since her time with Prince in the 80s. Looking forward to the Tina Weymouth episode.. 1 Quote
fleabag Posted January 13, 2019 Posted January 13, 2019 Sheila E - fab. Were we even discussing her at band rehearsals this evening. Class indeed 1 Quote
steantval Posted January 13, 2019 Posted January 13, 2019 Didn’t realise Sheila E was 61, she looks fab. 1 Quote
fleabag Posted January 13, 2019 Posted January 13, 2019 Keith Richards at least 10 years older than her and looks even better 2 Quote

Steve Browning Posted January 15, 2019 Posted January 15, 2019 Have to say I wanted to gaffa tape his arms to his sides after a while. Rather a demonstrative chap - clearly never a bass player. 1 Quote
Guest MoJo Posted January 15, 2019 Posted January 15, 2019 I want a bass room like Taylor Hawkins' drum room Quote

Linus27 Posted January 15, 2019 Posted January 15, 2019 Totally loved the Stewart Copeland episode and I wanted it to be twice as long. For me, it only scratched the surface. Loved the 30 second drum playing that went through the changes from marching up to The Beatles. That was brilliant. Did anyone see the natural Fender Telecaster bass that was in front of Stewart when he was making the first bass drum pedal in his house Huge gas now, it was gorgeous Quote

Great see Ringo getting his props as well. The thing that struck me with the interviewees was the snares- vicious. Can't get my drummer to do that, he doesn't think it's tasteful! 1 Quote

Yep, totally agree about the snare thing as well, very pronounced. Oh, I loved the Motown bongo's lady, that part was brilliant. 2 Quote
bassbiscuits Posted January 15, 2019 Posted January 15, 2019 Yeah I love Stewart Copeland's playing - really enjoyed the show and looking forward to Tina Weymouth. Quote

Great Scott!! I was impressed by and enjoyed his enthusiasm for music and drumming, and what a selection of interviewees! 1 Quote
super al Posted January 18, 2019 Posted January 18, 2019 Thank you! Just reminded me to set record BBC 4, 9pm tonight! "A joyride through the deepest register in music". On drums was ace and discussed at jam night this week. Nobody could remember who's doing guitar next week though! Quote

Nice concise history of the bass there with a bit of colour... I want to watch your documentary. Quote
arthurhenry Posted January 18, 2019 Author Posted January 18, 2019 From what I can gather, we can expect Jamerson, Hook, Flowers, Macca, Kaye, Bootsy and Bernard. One has to presume there will be some mention of the late 60s/early 70s British rock bass players and that Pastorius bloke. Apparently the guitar episode next week is not on a par with the drums and bass shows. Make up your own jokes... Quote
TheGreek Posted January 18, 2019 Posted January 18, 2019 Quick double check - Yep, set to record tonight's episode Quote
Guest Posted January 18, 2019 Posted January 18, 2019 BBC4 have just announced tonight’s program featuring bass “legends” Nile Rodgers and Carole Kaye 😄 Quote

I think you could piece it together from bits of every other BBC rock documentary. Save the Royal Blood guy, might not have so much stock BBC footage of him. Quote
paul_c2 Posted January 18, 2019 Posted January 18, 2019 Brilliant! Tina Weymouth: "For those not from the mothership...." 3 Quote
ezbass Posted January 18, 2019 Posted January 18, 2019 I thought the drum episode was better, but that may be down to already knowing the majority of the content of this episode already. 2 Quote
