Thunderpaws Posted December 19, 2018 Posted December 19, 2018 Just stumbled across this Fender master built P. Though I can appreciate the work and timbers used to make it, I think it’s fugly! https://www.guitarguitar.co.uk/product/181108334549003--fender-custom-shop-post-modern-p-bass-black-burst-spalted-maple Anyone like it? Maude Posted December 19, 2018 Posted December 19, 2018 The 'aerosol overspray' around the pickup route ruins it, if it weren't ruined enough already. Quote
mingsta Posted December 19, 2018 Posted December 19, 2018 A bit too heavy with the mascara. Not a good look. 1 1 Quote
yorks5stringer Posted December 19, 2018 Posted December 19, 2018 One for a 'collector' to lock away for 20 years? Quote

ahpook Posted December 20, 2018 Posted December 20, 2018 (edited) It looks like an ashtray. Edited December 20, 2018 by ahpook 1 1 Quote
40hz Posted December 20, 2018 Posted December 20, 2018 Fell from the top branch of the ugly tree, struck a particularly springy bottom branch and bounced back up to repeat the process. 🤢 Quote
alyctes Posted December 20, 2018 Posted December 20, 2018 Not my thing. I agree part of the problem is the overspray around the pickup, but that's not all of it. But I am not a Fender fan, so... Quote
Newfoundfreedom Posted December 20, 2018 Posted December 20, 2018 (edited) All Fenders are ugly. This one I actually prefer to many I've seen. Edit: Jesus H Mary mother of Christmas!!! I've just noticed the price. Now it's ugly! Edited December 20, 2018 by Newfoundfreedom Quote
Wilco Posted December 20, 2018 Posted December 20, 2018 I’m going to go against the grain here (‘pun’ intended) & admit to thinking it looks.......sort of alright. The spray around the pickups is definitely a step to far though, & the price is just ridiculous. Good to see a Fender P that aesthetically isn’t as boring as f**k though!! Quote
Aidan63 Posted December 20, 2018 Posted December 20, 2018 I can't see anyone buying it except to wave their willy about how expensive it is even if it plays well and sounds great Quote
BigRedX Posted December 20, 2018 Posted December 20, 2018 (edited) It's a nice piece of wood. However someone has seen fit to use it make a very boring bass. Edited December 20, 2018 by BigRedX Quote
eude Posted December 20, 2018 Posted December 20, 2018 Hmmm, not my thing. If they hadn't coloured in round the pickups, it would be a lot better, but still a bit fugly. I really struggle to see where the £5500 has gone on this. Is that what a custom shop Fender costs? Eude Quote

I’ve just been on the Maruszczyk configurator & specced an Elwood to something similar as below (can’t do the Jake). That Elwood spec includes Delano pups & hipshot bridge & tuners. Build quality would be just as good & comes in at £1800........ 1 Quote

franzbassist Posted December 20, 2018 Posted December 20, 2018 Just don't bother with the burst, especially not one so heavy and badly thought through..... Quote
Osiris Posted December 20, 2018 Posted December 20, 2018 It's not pretty that's for sure, but it's no more hideous or offensive than the ubiquitous turdburst/turdashell combo finishes which have set the bar for fugliness far as I'm concerned, they really make my eyes bleed! 1 Quote
