just to answer the original question however....

Cort bass guitars are IMHO outstanding value for money, especially when buying 2nd hand.

Best 5er i ever had under 1K was a Cort A5 custom SP, and i believe they are made in the same factory as Ibanez.

this one actually...http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/Cort_A5_Custom_SP_SH.htm

*that's the exact bass! i checked the serial number! not that i needed to, as that top is very unique! the person i sold it too must have traded it in.

Oooh that Cort looks great! I need to look into them further - be interested in whether they do a P/J and what the pup options are.

@GisserD if you're after 19mm spacing, check out the BTB range. Neck through and 35" scale to boot.

Not sure they come with my preferred Nordstrand pups though.

I think you’re right on the p/ups, it seems to be either Bartolini or Aguilar.

I’ve played a Cort A6 before. Reminded me strongly of a Ken Smith, nice even tone and lovely fit and finish. The only downside was the slightly anaemic electronics. I’m usually a Bartolini fan but I think it had the cheaper mk1 pickups (not sure about the eq). They certainly punch way above their weight. The B5 OPN with Wenge neck and ash body is also a cracker - and can be had for less than £500.

...or buy a six string SR and modify it to a 5. A new saddle, a new bridge and - that's it. You can remove the extra tuner, too.

Ah that's a shame. For me quality pups (which can cost a few hundred quid) are a big part of what makes a great bass.

sounds like a massive faff. and resale value would be £0

18 mm on a 5er is not uncommon, no need to butcher anything as im not committed to an SR. i just think they are pretty.

...Im on the hunt for an Xotic PJ really

i think bridges are sitting in a routed recess.

The modification is really easy to do in both directions. Done that a few times. I would rather say that the modification cost is pretty close to £0...

The bridge solution is product dependent. You could open the cavity if needed.

but the saddles are individual. Are you seriously suggesting taking 1 off and spacing the remaining 5 to an acceptable spacing????

Not to mention the whole world of pain that could open up if you were to get it wrong, it would look awful!! the saddle recess pockets would be visible through the gaps between the saddles. Just no.

No, not all SRs have recessed saddles but ordinary bridges. Yes, I have done the modification to few basses. I still have one brown 6-to-5 SR that has very good neck and reasonable sounds. Funny: sure the looks could be "awful" if you did not use the right tools.

All of the prestige / premium models have individual recessed bridges.

I think the 3v system (power curve III 3 band) eq was on the 09-14 SR4000E, 11-12 SR4500E and the 09-14 SR5000E as well as their 5 and 6 string counterparts. Also the limited edition SR5JCT. They are recognizable by the 2 rubber knobs, 4 plastic knobs and only one switch. In 2015, the eq was replaced by the ibanez custom 3 band eq which has 5 plastic knobs (2 large, 3 small) and two switches and a 9v battery box on the back.

Power curve III - you can see the 2 AA battery box

Hello, would you have the installation diagram for this preamp power curve 3?
If you could provide it to me, I would thank you forever.
