Sir Spence
Gents, I'm new to this bass malarkey and bought some medium D'addario Flatwound Chromes ..for a P-Bass - Doh! My other half has just bought a 32" scaled acoustic bass from this parish - looks like my mediums should fit, but are they a sensible thing to sting up an acoustic bass with ..failing that, I see a Hofner in my future.. 😋
Chiliwailer
I personally only put flats on my acoustic bass, and Chromes would be very nice if your other half likes flats on them. To me they sound more natural, though will have a bit less volume. Plus, some of us prefer the feel of a flat to a bronze string as they are much smoother to the touch.
Delberthot
I've never understood bronze strings on an acoustic. They feel horrible and make that horrible slidey noise when you move your left hand. I had chromes on my Fender acoustic bass and it sounded really good
Maude
Not sure they'll go on a Hofner either, they have very small guitar style tuners with small holes.
Sir Spence
Thanks Gents - appreciate the replies - seems my my other half is going to have some very nice strings on her acoustic
josie
I have exactly those strings on my fretless acoustic and my fretless electric - they sound and feel good on both.
Sir Spence
Cool thanks @jose - seems like I (and She) lucked out then 😀
danny-79
After reading another thread about acoustic bass strings, I’ve always had bronze on my acoustic, mine are coated so no finger noise but after recently playing a gig with it (not the sort of bass you play every day) the realisation of how clunky and noisy they are hit home. I’ve got s set of chromes waiting to go on anyways.
