Lozz196 Posted December 31, 2018 Posted December 31, 2018 Just watching this, not a bad sound at all and even just with regular TV speakers bass nicely present in the mix. 3 Quote
Mister RLP Posted December 31, 2018 Posted December 31, 2018 They were great at the Brighton Centre last week. Great tonight. Bedder’s Bass is clearer tonight. Bit muddy at the show but we were sitting on the sides. Quote
Lozz196 Posted December 31, 2018 Author Posted December 31, 2018 Just looked up what bass he’s using, a Bass Centre Bruce Thomas Precision. Apparently made from basswood but there’s no lacking in his sound this eve, certainly giving me a rethink on basswood which up until now I’ve always thought a bit lacking. Quote
steantval Posted January 1, 2019 Posted January 1, 2019 I like Madness but find Suggs is a vocalist of very limited talent, he’s a talking type singer. Quote

I was trying to make it out. Sounds great and a lovely dark board too 😍 Quote
Maude Posted January 1, 2019 Posted January 1, 2019 It just proves that you don't have to be a great singer to be a great frontman. A few years back I was in a band with a decidedly average singer but he was a great frontman, could get the most disinterested crowd eating out of his hand. 2 Quote

Doesn't look like the head shape or logo shown in their ad?: http://www.basscentre.com/british-bass-masters/bruce-thomas-profile.html Quote

Surely better to have a great vocalist and frontman, Mr Mercury to name just one. 1 Quote
bassbiscuits Posted January 1, 2019 Posted January 1, 2019 (edited) Christ alive Suggs can't sing to save his life can he? Is he 'refreshed?' Cool venue tho innit Edited January 1, 2019 by bassbiscuits Quote
Maude Posted January 1, 2019 Posted January 1, 2019 Well yes, obviously, but you can't always have everything. Quote

It looked like the controls from a 51 Precision although it wasn't a Fender. Quote

spectoremg Posted January 1, 2019 Posted January 1, 2019 Saw them at Victorious last year and the bass sound was great. Quote
Graham Posted January 1, 2019 Posted January 1, 2019 I was asleep by 10 last night, so looking forwars to watching this on Iplayer later Quote
anzoid Posted January 1, 2019 Posted January 1, 2019 First two verses of "Wings of a Dove" was painful but the rest - very enjoyable, but spent most of the time trying to work out what brand the bass was - family wouldn't have appreciated me pausing the show for a better look... Quote
anzoid Posted January 1, 2019 Posted January 1, 2019 OK, think I found the bass - it looks like it's a Joseph Kaye Guitars custom build - found a gallery on Facebook, so not sure if this link will work: https://www.facebook.com/pg/Josephkayeguitars-The-london-workshop-142235195836790/photos/?tab=album&album_id=1197588173634815&__tn__=-UC-R 3 2 Quote
anzoid Posted January 1, 2019 Posted January 1, 2019 An article on JKG where Mark's bass is mentioned: https://www.pressreader.com/australia/guitarist/20180112/282930975749387 1 2 Quote
Lozz196 Posted January 1, 2019 Author Posted January 1, 2019 Yeah that`s the one, looks like Bedders has moved on from the Bass Centre one then. Thought it was a great presence in the mix. I did an online search which said he was using the Bruce Thomas bass, but thought maybe he`d had that changed to the 51 style controls but it`s def the JKG one, the facebook page shows it nicely. Linus27 Posted January 1, 2019 Posted January 1, 2019 Nice find on the bass. Sounded great and looked gorgeous. Quote
Skybone Posted January 1, 2019 Posted January 1, 2019 Wondered what sort of bass Bedders was using, great find anzoid. Quote

casapete Posted January 1, 2019 Posted January 1, 2019 Just watched this and really enjoyed it. Suggs not a technically spot on vocalist but his delivery and personality more than make up for it IMO. On 'Wings of a dove' he appeared to be having trouble with his monitoring, singing a couple of tones down from the band for the first part but then back on key for the rest. IEM problems maybe? In the second part he was back using regular foldback. The band sounded great, and Bedder's bass looked and sounded ace through my TV anyway. A good show, and easy to forget how many great songs Madness have, both old and recent. Quote
