agoulding Posted December 4, 2008 Posted December 4, 2008 i might be selling my ibanez srx595, quality axe for the price. i used to play in a death metal band and i felt it was a great sound. ill let it go for 230 Quote
rjb Posted December 4, 2008 Posted December 4, 2008 (edited) This question has cropped up alot lately. If you want to buy new then my answer, as ever, would be the Ibanez SR505BM. However, if you're happy to go second-hand then I would also join the others in recommending the Lakland that is being sold here for a very decent price. I know, P's and Jazzes are out but since going back to a P ive found that the punch and warmth is there, minus the bloody annoying click i get with a pick ;-) Quote
The Funk Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008
used Warwick Corvette/Streamer.
Agreed. A secondhand 5-string Corvette would do the job very well. And if you ever decide to become a slap/pop fiend, you wouldn't need to change bass. Warwicks are great for funk or metal. Quote
Brave Sir Robin Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 (edited) played a corvette standard swamp ash passive, very mellow, very woody earthy (hey?) tone. lovely. Was a 4 string though. http://www.thomann.de/gb/warwick_corvette_std_5_nat.htm more expensive, 30 days return policy though. Gamble Posted December 9, 2008 Posted December 9, 2008 (edited) One of my guitarists is selling a thru-neck Peavey 5 string, I'm not sure which model it is but it looks much like this: He's not after much for it and if you're interested I'd get my hands on it and try to get you some more details. I've played it before and it felt and sounded really good, plenty of tone control if I remember correctly. Edited December 9, 2008 by Gamble Quote

leschirons Posted December 10, 2008 Posted December 10, 2008 Hi, check out the OLP Tony Levin Stingray V Well within your budget at about £295 and possibly cheaper if you shop around. Real cool looker and I had a go on one last month. Was really suprised. It seriously kicked some great sounds out. Comfy to play and a classic design. Cheers K Quote
fekalizatorius Posted December 11, 2008 Posted December 11, 2008 When I was strolling through the music stores, I played MANY, and i don't mean 10, basses. I had a simmilair budget in my pocket. At first i wanted an ESP-LTD, but when I came across the Yamaha RBX375, my choice was instantanious. It was outstanding - great, punchy, low and very versitile sound, the body just screamed metal, in a good way (unlike B.C.Rich'es). Really worth concideration Also it sounds nice playing anything else Quote
