Guest oZZma
What could possibly be the cause for a (guitar) amp to crackle? ☹️ Lately my amp is not working well... Sometimes it makes a crackle sound and then just stops emitting any sound (and then needs to be switched of and then on to start working again) Sometimes, when I switch on, and after 10 minutes I start playing, no sound Is coming from It, and after switching randomly the ABY swicther 180 and lift, It starts working... If anyone has any idea of the possibile cause any help would be very welcome 😔
bazzbass
it's a process of elimination. try a different bass try a different instrument cable try a different speaker cable try a different head etc
Newfoundfreedom
It sounds like a bad connection somewhere, giving an intermittent signal. As bazzbass says above it could be anything in the signal chain and the only way to find it is the process of elimination. If it's definitely the amp it could be anything from a bad cable connector to a dry solder joint or bad capacitor. The only way to cure it would be to take it to an amp Tec or electricical specialist if it's a decent amp worth spending money on.
itu
The first test - always - is to put a cable to FX loop, so a bass (yes!) cable from SEND to RETURN. If the problem is gone, buy a short cable to the loop. These connections tend to be the usual suspect. Speaker cable is the next one - use only quality ones and check them periodically. At least once a year. A loose screw is hard to find. (Other than that, Speakon is the right solution for speakers.)
Guest oZZma
Thanks, I have already made some tests and now I'm almost sure it's NOT the amp, although I haven't been able to locate where the problem happens yet Edited January 12, 2019 by oZZma
Guest oZZma
I wanted to see if it's the amp, first, so I tried amp+bass (+brand new instrument cable) only amp+bass+ amp footswitch only amp+bass+ABY switcher only (both channels) I havent' had any crackle or problem even after hours of playing, with any of these combinations There must be some faulty pedal or cable somewhere but at least the amp seems OK (I can't be 100% sure because the problem only happened randomly) Edited January 12, 2019 by oZZma
