Hammeron Posted January 7, 2019 Posted January 7, 2019 (edited) Nordy VJ5 5-string. Made in the US by Carey Nordstrand. Has Nordstrand Big Single(I think) pickups and a Nordstrand onboard pre-amp. The stock plastic knobs have been swapped out for black steel knobs bought from the John East website(original knobs supplied on request). Serial no: 195 Lightweight instrument(3.7kg). 34.5” scale. gillento Posted January 11, 2019 Posted January 11, 2019 Those Nordy basses are SOOOOOOOO underrated over here in Europe. The first one I got, made me sell all my 5 Sadowsky basses (US custom & Metro). My VJ5 and VP5 are still my main basses! GLWTS 1

Nordy’s are definitely underrated, the sound is just amazing.

binky_bass Posted January 16, 2019 Posted January 16, 2019 I owned a 6 string custom Nordstrand some time ago, and Binky (my 10 string bass) has Nordstrand pickups custom made by Carey himself, his work is outstanding and the build quality is impecible. This will be a fantastic bass! 1
Hammeron Posted January 16, 2019 Author Posted January 16, 2019 Thanks Binky, Yes Nordstrand make the best pickups in my view. A great company to deal with too. I had acquired a set of Nordstrand jazz bass pups second hand but un-used, however they didn’t fit in my bass so I mailed Nordstrand to see if there was any solution I could try, they offered to wind me a new set in exchange for the set I had, I had to pay postage and the difference in model price(which was a small fee), I was very happy with this result. They are no1 for me now.
binky_bass Posted January 16, 2019 Posted January 16, 2019 Carey is a genuinely good guy, I sent him an essay on what I wanted the pickups to sound like for my 10 string, and he did exactly that... when Binky was eventually delivered, I plugged him in and true to his word he wound pickups that met almost exactly the description I sent him!
