I'm a valve cynic. What's not "warm" about solid state amps? It's all in your head... or the EQ... or both.

Warm soiled state?  💩

As per the other thread, digital modelling can accurately emulate a valve pre.  The only part that can't be replicated is a valve power stage.  It's hard to get the bounce of KT88s or 6550s digitally.

I've just shuffled my living room about, having put a load of Orange/Matamp/Crown/Marshall up on the Bay (usual idiot timewasters....)

I'm now down to my very own personal sound choice:

2x Barefaced Dubsters powered by a 300 (1970?)(Mathias) Matamp slave (KT120 x4)

2x Mackie C200 tops powered by a 120 (1969) OrangeMatamp (EL34 x 4)

1x Focusrite Compounder

1x Generic frequency splitter

1x Numark CDN77 twin cd deck

1x Denon DNX500 preamp/mixer

Nothing 'solid state even comes close ...... this set's a Keeper.........I'm playing Joe Gibbs (reggae) as I type

I think I'm in love...........

Loads of pre-amp options... some good suggestions so far.

I'll dive in with tube-loaded Two Notes Le Bass or Darkglass' solid-state range which all sound awesome with varying degrees of grit. Sensing for this OP the Vintage Ultra being the most appropriate.
