Les Posted January 13, 2019 Posted January 13, 2019 Will it be a thing of beauty I can run without the scratchplate like the fretless VM's or will it be a world war 1 trench ? I know I could just take a look but I'm sure you've done it and Paula is making my tea for 5.30 so I have to go out now. Ta Les Quote
Cato Posted January 13, 2019 Posted January 13, 2019 (edited) If it's like my 2016 VM70s then there's a bloody great channel carved out between the neck pickup and the control plate. (Edited for clarity). Edited January 13, 2019 by Cato 1 Quote
lemmywinks Posted January 13, 2019 Posted January 13, 2019 Will probably look a bit like this: 2 12 Quote
Teebs Posted January 13, 2019 Posted January 13, 2019 My guess - Lord Lucan & Shergar. You know I'm right! 1 4 Quote
paul_c2 Posted January 13, 2019 Posted January 13, 2019 My best guess: it won't look that bad, but it won't look good enough to leave the scratchplate off. Think, small channel for wires, oversized holes for the pickup, visible lip/edge where the scratchplate was, paint/varnish imperfections. 2 Quote
Aidan63 Posted January 13, 2019 Posted January 13, 2019 My 20114 VM77 had a nice body and the pickup rout for the neck pickup wasn't too much oversize, better than a MIM which has a big fixture hole and cable rout hope the tea was nice and once you've done the washing up get the screwdriver out Quote
Ricky 4000 Posted January 13, 2019 Posted January 13, 2019 (edited) I did not know about these secret spaces. 😁 Edited January 13, 2019 by Ricky 4000 1 1 Quote

Surely I'm not going to have to get my screw driver out ? I have 2 VM's, that must be like 20 screws in all. There must be 5 thousand VM Jazz owners on here. Quote
Aidan63 Posted January 13, 2019 Posted January 13, 2019 not all VM are equal, is yours a ICS or IC serial number ? naughty boy not doing the washing up when cooked for, you won't get invited to tea again 2 Quote
Les Posted January 13, 2019 Author Posted January 13, 2019 That's a lot of hole round that neck pickup innit ? Quote

Reggaebass Posted January 13, 2019 Posted January 13, 2019 If you unscrew the control plate you will see if the body has been routed for the wires to the neck pickup 🙂 1 Quote

paul_c2 Posted January 13, 2019 Posted January 13, 2019 I have a Squier VM which doesn't have a pickguard on at the moment, do you want me to post a pic of it? 1 Quote

Cato Posted January 13, 2019 Posted January 13, 2019 I did it when I installed new pickups and a new wiring harness. I was sure it had the control cavity/neck pick up rout, but some of the other answers have got me doubting my memory. I reckon you're just going to have to bite the bullet and spend the 10 minutes or so it will take to take off the plate, have a peek, then decide if you want to take it further. Fnarr fnarr. 2 2 Quote
