bluebottle47
I've had this early 60s relic for decades and am currently trying to overhaul it. Unfortunately, it has a great big hand rest which prevents removal of the scratch plate (into which volume control and pickup selectors are built) unless it too is removed. It looks as though it's simply 'spiked' into the body, but I'm loathe to apply a lot of force lest I damage something. Does anyone know for sure how it's fixed? Any info gratefully received. pete.young
I had one of the 4-string ones back in the 1970s, and I'm pretty sure it was just a push fit into the two sockets on the top of the bass. You're talking about the steel bar, about 300mm long with two 'spikes' that point down into holes in the bass, yes? Maybe try a drop of penetrating oil around the spike ? Be interested to see some pictures. Wish I'd kept mine now.
