rodfunnell
Just want to say how great it was dealing with Bass Direct a couple of weeks ago. I had a hankering for a new bit of kit but was literally drowning in old gear that I never had the time to get sold. After sending some pics I had trade in prices for everything and a day later hit the road from the South Coast to get it all gone! Decent prices given and I drove away very happy with my new acquisition! So if you are in the market for a MarkBass rig for all gig sizes, Darkglass effect, Phil Jones Earbox, cute and great sounding Ampeg mini stack or even a lovely Takemine acoustic then visit their site and do a deal - I thoroughly recommend the effort! Thanks guys!
jezzaboy
Nice to hear of the good side of retail sometimes. Glad you are happy with the deal!
The59Sound
Do you get the money when you trade in or only when they sell the item?
spencer.b
What did you buy?

If you sell on commision you have to pay it all up front and recover the cost as it sells, but will get more money back than a pure trade. kyuuga
Bass Direct is amazing. I recently bought a bass from them and everything was super smooth. The customer service is amazing (I sent a mail and they answered me in like 5 minutes - in the morning), the packaging was the best I've ever seen and the prices are quite good. It's awesome to have such a dedicated bass-only store with the best products and great service. I've never been to the physical shop but my experience from their online services was top notch.
rodfunnell
@The59Sound got the money off the item straight away - the invoice showed the cash back and then the balance for the new item... was offered commission sales but it made more sense to get the clean break as the deal was good (for both parties). rodfunnell
@spencer.b I succumbed to the call of a Vanderkley Spartan... got a first proper outing tonight in the full band mix so will be doing a few review pieces soon as there are not many owner reviews out there for those interested - Scott (SBL) did a good review and that helped sway my choice but to be honest it was the handbuilt aspect that really got my attention - first impression is how clear and honest the reproduction is - different basses are having their true voice reflected!
Roger2611
To be totally honest I find it really depends on who you are dealing with at Bass Direct as to the level of service you receive, Mark has always been brilliant with me and has steered me in the right direction on a number of occasions which has led to me spending a good deal of hard earned in his shop, the last item I purchased was a Glockenlang Preamp for a recently acquired Bass Collection bass, it arrived, I installed it....nothing, I checked my wiring, it was right so I was stumped, I farmed it out to a local tech who had it for over a week and finally discovered that the brand new 9V battery terminal supplied with the preamp had a dead short! It cost me £40.00 in total to get the bass sorted....I thought I would feed that back to Bass Direct so they could feed it back to Glockenlang, I rang and spoke to Marcus who basically sounded utterly disinterested when I described the issues I had, I have no belief that it was ever fed back to Glockenlang...which is a shame as the preamp is as good as Mark suggested it would be!
Mokl
The above unfortunately mirrors my own experience re. the disinterest from one staff member when Mark's not about. I've mixed feelings about returning which is a shame as so want to support an independent specialist bass shop which could be such an excellent business.

That’s pretty much word for word what I said after I first used my Spartan and VK 210 cab. My bass sounds like... umm... wait for it... MY BASS, which I don’t think I’ve ever experienced in all the amps/cabs/combos I’ve tried and owned. I was drawn to the simplicity of the Spartan. In a world of ever more complicated bass related gadgets and gizmos with trillions of customisable options. I just want to plug in and play with minimal faff and distraction. Would anyone like to pay me to write a full and proper review? 😉
Bobthedog
I went to Bass Direct today, which to be fair where I usually go for my guitars, however, today, was much better than expected. I traded in two now unplayed Dingwall Combustion V and a Fender Jazz Delux 4 for a new Dingwall AB1. What amazed me was just how good the trade in offer was from Mark (made before I had even suggested what I was looking for). Significantly above what I was expecting to be offered. Not only that but I was left to play three basses with no rush, standing over or pressure for as long as I needed. Very happy with the whole experience again.
