Requests for sound clips

The tones I get from a bass are going to be, in general, completely different to those that others'll get.

I've seen numerous requests for sound clips on sale threads...why?? I'm pretty sure we're agreed that there are so many factors in the sound that comes out of a bass/amp/etc that make such requests meaningless.

Normally people say how the clip is recorded, so you get an idea. Personally I think the bass itself is a massive part of the sound, so a clip is useful.

Indeed, it's an approximation though,  as even the speakers and eq you listen on will be different.  Better than silence though

The Zen Pro Audio 'Clipalator'... allows you to virtually demo a huge quantity of gear using the same set of audio clips, so you can very easily compare one product against another. Gets updated frequently as new gear comes into their store (based in the US).

Unfortunately (in this context) it's focussed mostly on equipment for use by studio engineers and not musicians. But I've always thought it's a very sound idea. No pun intended.
