solo4652
I've just starting playing with an acoustic covers duo. Usual mix of pop, ballads, crowd-pleasers. Depending on the song, I play either electric bass or cajon. Bass rig: MIJ Mustang------> GK MB500 head----------> Tecamp 12" speaker. No effects or pedals at all. Cajon rig: Cajon--------->Yoga D-606 Dymanic mic-----------> Eden E10 bass combo. I like to mic the cajon because I don't want to injure myself by hitting it hard to get the required volume. Is there a way I can use just the bass rig for both the bass and the cajon? I'm thinking some sort of very simple floor switch that enables me to quickly and noiselessly switch the input signal between the instruments. I won't need to be able to play both - it's either one or the other! Or maybe a small, powerful powered mixer? Leave the GK head at home, plug the bass and cajon into the mixer, and out to the Tecamp speaker? All ideas and suggestions gratefully received. solo4652
Errm - answering my own post here. Because I don't use pedals at all, I wasn't aware of A-B switching pedals. Would this do what I want, please? https://www.gear4music.com/Guitar-and-Bass/Belcat-ABS-520-Dual-Input-A-B-Box-True-Bypass/FY4?origin=product-ads&campaign=PLA+Shop+-+GENERIC&adgroup=GENERIC&medium=vertical_search&network=google&merchant_id=1279443&product_id=20668d1&product_country=GB&product_partition_id=127245249679&gclid=CjwKCAiA1ZDiBRAXEiwAIWyNC8qDvNo2FnAVECWfvetqUKhVOJAWY58eu3i-_APhpBMGBBnw9bZG8RoCTZAQAvD_BwE
Jakester
I use a Radial IO pedal, which is an A/B switch with an adjustable level on one of the inputs. Perhaps worth a look?
Jack
Yes, yes it would. As an alternatives, might I suggest either BrightOnion (who make the BEST routing solutions on the planet) or, one the other end of the spectrum, a DIY solution. Newfoundfreedom
Fender AB-Y would do the job and also give you the option to run the Cajon and Bass simultaneously should your ever need to. They can be picked up for around £20 and they're very sturdy and well made. I use one to switch between basses. Edit Although it looks like the one you posted would be just the job because it looks like it has adjustable volumes. solo4652
OK - here's an update: We've decided I won't be playing bass on any songs with the acoustic duo - just the cajon. That's making me re-think my amp requirements. I don't want to use my GK MB500/Techamp 112 bass rig for the cajon - It's Watts overkill, and a seperate head/cab setup for the cajon is adding complexity and leads to what should be a simple rig. I'm now thinking along the lines of a small bass combo that doesn't need to be sophisticated - it's only having to cope with two tones - "boom" and "tish"! 50W, won't need gain, parametric EQ, effects loop, tuner - none of that. Just a simple, robust, lightweight portable bass amp, maybe with the facility for battery as well as mains power. Not sure whether I'll need 10" or 12". Would an 8" cope, do you think? All suggestions gratefully received. Thanks, folks.

A powered PA speaker. It could double for cajon and bass too, if you return to that plan. Edited February 2, 2019 by jrixn1

Thank yoiu - good call. I hadn't thought of that at all. Better off with a 10" speaker, or would an 100W, 8" speaker do?

At present, it's an "Acoustic" duo, I'd be 3rd member: Singer using an expensive, passive small Bose array pole system and a behringer mixer, guitarist going through the singer's rig. I've asked, and the singer is not happy for me to put the cajon through her rig. Don't know why, but there you go. Small/medium cafe-bar/pub venues - 50-100 people. How about this? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MALONE-ACTIVE-PA-SPEAKER-10-SPEAKER-POWERED-STAGE-200W-RMS-MAX-DISCO-46-21/173536527780?hash=item28679545a4:g:dswAAOSwZOBbl4Bu:rk:2:pf:0 Edited February 2, 2019 by solo4652
jrixn1
I don't really know about amplifying cajons. I've not heard of the "Malone" brand but it seems really cheap (...too cheap). The level of your other equipment is higher quality - MIJ Mustang, GK, TecAmp, Eden; I'm not sure you'd be happy with this "Malone" budget offering. Something like the RCF 310 mk3 costs a lot more, but I currently use RCF and found them to have great sound, volume, and build quality. Jack
If you're looking at budget PA stuff then the answer is Alto. You can find the truesonic series for peanuts second hand. A TS115A or even TS112A would be good.
