Slappindabass Posted January 25, 2019 Posted January 25, 2019 I for the life of me cannot work out what colour this is. Cant really remember the year but think it was a 72....I am leaning towards a solid wine red any experts out there help me out? Quote
Lozz196 Posted January 25, 2019 Posted January 25, 2019 Looks a similar colour to Nate Mendel of Foo Fighters early 70s Precision, which is Candy Apple Red. Quote
Slappindabass Posted January 25, 2019 Author Posted January 25, 2019 I seem to remember it being more burgundy than red though. Quote
sprocketflup Posted January 25, 2019 Posted January 25, 2019 Dunno what colour it is, but it seems to be bringing the player great joy 1 Quote
fleabag Posted January 25, 2019 Posted January 25, 2019 The top bass looks almost like the Mocha colour P they did some time back 1 Quote
KK Jale Posted January 25, 2019 Posted January 25, 2019 Wine Red was a Fender colour in the 70s. It's probably that. Here's a Strat: https://reverb.com/ca/p/fender-stratocaster-maple-wine-red-1979 Quote
Reggaebass Posted January 25, 2019 Posted January 25, 2019 It could be candy cola red which is a bit darker than the candy apple 🙂 2 Quote
Slappindabass Posted January 25, 2019 Author Posted January 25, 2019 It wasnt metallic. I think the cola was. The strat looks like the colour but mine was not translucent. Quote

Chiliwailer Posted January 26, 2019 Posted January 26, 2019 It 'feels' like a refinish to me, and the pickguard has been changed too, so quite possibly done at the same time. Quote
Slappindabass Posted January 26, 2019 Author Posted January 26, 2019 Defo not a refinish, the pickguard got me a B in gcse metalwork!😁 1 Quote

I’d have said Dakota Red (but I am slightly colour blind!), though they stopped using it in 69, it wouldn’t be unheard of CBS to of found an old body and reused it in 72 (if it was new in 72?) Or if it’s a brown shade, it would be Walnut, which was sometimes called Mocha - see photo Edited January 26, 2019 by Chiliwailer Quote
Chiliwailer Posted January 26, 2019 Posted January 26, 2019 (edited) This is pretty cool, 1968 - 2010 price lists, walnut is in the 1973 one. https://support.fender.com/hc/en-us/articles/115000746086-Archived-Fender-Price-Lists-1968-2010- Edited January 26, 2019 by Chiliwailer Quote
Slappindabass Posted January 26, 2019 Author Posted January 26, 2019 It was more of a Burgundy...guess I will never know!😁 Quote
