Arthur Maia R.I.P.

On 13 th December last year I had a heart attack. I survived and live to play another day.

 

Two days after me, Arthur Maia, first call bass player for dozens of Latin Jazz artists like Djavan, Gilberto Gil, Mrisa Monte, Lulu Santos and Ney Matogrosso, suffered a cardiac arrest and didn't make it. Arthur was only a few months older than me. A sobering thought for me but, more importantly, the loss of a player whose work I had enjoyed for some years. Here he is leading his own band.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention. A great video; special mention for the drums, which sound as if he's backed by a percu player, but he's alone pumping that stuff out...! Joyous music, very fitting in the context of your post.
