Do you name your basses?

Hi all,

Thought this might be an interesting discussion, does anyone else name their instruments?

Guy Pratt's "Betsy" comes to mind.

I've always named mine ever since I got a Strat when I was 16 and my subsequent basses, and they tend to be somewhat based around the colour of the instrument.

I'll list everything I have owned and named over the years.

1989 Fender Strat, Red - Scarlett

Tanglewood Acoustic - Calliope

Black Yamaha classical guitar - Jet

Mustard Yellow Yamaha RBX - Shielah

Schecter Riot 5 session - Kiara

Warwick Corvette, Black - Dana

Dingwall NG2 Combustion, Red - Rosalie

Fleabass, Blue - Katara

Marcus Miller Sire V7, White - Cirilla

I think that's all of them.

Anyone else weird like me? Nobody? 😏

I worked in a guitar shop for years.

there was a guy, and to be fair I cannot be certain he was really on earth at all times.

referred to guitars as

”naughty minx”

”sultry mistress”

”dirty little biztch”

and described a tube screamer pedal (pronounced TOOB) as “the g-spot for valve amps”

Honestly, I still chuckle.

the kid broke everything he was bought. And it was always “shoddy” or “defective workmanship”.

Dad was sound, but mum was a real shitehawk.

the vimto bit of his name was hilarious.

All of my basses have come with names on them, I sometimes add a little to make them more distinctive, so we have had 'the black Precision'. 'the white Precision' 'the new Ibanez', 'the Ibanez I bought last month', etc.

Yep.

They're called 'The Jazz', 'The P', 'The Fretless' and 'The Washburn'.

This. With knobs on.'

As if evidence of it's oddness were needed, F1 driver Sebastian Vettel apparently christens his race cars with fairly racey (sic) names (e.g. 'Rachel's dirty sister'). I kid you not.

Need I say more? I think not.
