My main bass and the bass that has held such a title for the longest – 6yrs to be exact.  It’s a 1994 (according to the serial number thingy) Fender Japan PB70 complete with TV style logo and vintage tinted neck.

Bought as a replica of Baz Fratelli’s 1974 precision bass and set up with the same strings and features as his original.  It has seen several things done to it in the time I have held it which ive listed below.

When I bought his from Ookini (Japanese guitar and bass specialist over on that ebay) he mentioned that the Black/black/rosewood version of the PB70 is the rarest.  Ive seen many oly white/black but never seen another black/black.

Its first ever full set up I had done when I first bought it including a full fret dress.  It has worn flatwounds ever since so frets are in excellent condition

I bought this for my 30th and was my #1 bass for 4 years covering all my gigs and recording.  I sold it briefly a few years back and bought it back after sellers remorse around 8mths later and its been reinstated as my number one ever since.  Unfortunately that ‘vintage fender bass’ itch that ive had for a few years now needs scratching and this is making way for such.

Additions:-

  • KIOgon wiring Harness

  • Alex Pribora handwound pickups – sound amazing and a ‘mod’ I do to all my P basses

  • Wilkinson 70’s style tuners

  • Thumb rest in 74 period correct position

  • Ashtray/bridge covers

  • Metal sleeve inserts in neck for neck bolts (during full set up at Jacks Instrument Services)

  • Elites Detroit Flatwound Strings

  • Fender F stamp neck plate and plastic gasket thingy for period correctness)

  • Set up/serviced pretty much every year since ive had it by Jack Ellis at Jacks Instrument Services to keep it in excellent recording and gigging condition.

Bad points:-

  • In its 8mth exile from me someone has attempted a mini relic job on the arm contour.  Doesn’t look remotely genuine but to be honest when being played it cant really be seen.  Could possibly be painted over or a more genuine relic job done

Of course it’s a gigged back so there are a few minor knocks and scuffs.

It genuinely is the one bass I thought id never sell.  If I hadn’t seen the 73 bass on Andy Baxter’s it would probably be my forever bass

Comes with an immaculate hardcase but I wont trust this to a courier.  Its collection only from Bolton where she can be heard thumping and growling through her best mate, a 1966 Ampeg fliptop.

No trades.  I don’t really want to do this but needs must.

Pics to follow tonight if I don’t change my mind throughout today 😊

Back up, had an offer of £600 off ebay but has since gone quiet.  Will accept same offer on here if that interests anyone at £600 collected or could work around UK postage
