Soledad Posted February 6, 2019 Share Posted February 6, 2019 Is it still how it was when I was a kid - there's the Precision (not P Bass please!) and the Jazz - pick one. It was like joining a gang - for life. Years on I've owned both and calmed down a bit - I'd be OK being seen with either. So what's the current view - Jazzes seem more common these days. gjones Posted February 6, 2019 Share Posted February 6, 2019 I like the neck on a Jazz and the clarity of tone. The ideal bass sound, that I hear in my head, is the sound of a Jazz. So when I play in my Blues/Rock band, I play a Jazz. But I also play in a country band and the Precision sound fits that genre very well. So when I play in the county band, I take my Precision. But saying that, I saw a video of my Blues/Rock band the other day, and in it, I was playing my Precision. It sounded pretty ballsy. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

However for knocking out 80's rock and pop covers in pubs and at festivals it has to be the Precision (or since December it is the Stingray). The gutsier tone of the precision is what I prefer live. MOSCOWBASS Posted February 7, 2019 Share Posted February 7, 2019 I use both, horses for courses. Precision with flats, Jazz with rounds. I find the Jazz with rounds sounds nicer at home, but the Precision is great live with the big band I play with....it has a bit more depth than the jazz. So are we talking a U.S. one of each here, or is there need (desire) for one of each but Mexican (say) is fine? I'm going to sound very 20th Century here, but I liked the old days* - one player, one bass - JFDI. * and cabs that weighed a sack o' spuds - that's 112lb in old money, about 50-odd Kg.
