Hobbayne Posted February 8, 2019 Posted February 8, 2019 Whats the average waiting time to have your own bass built to your own specs? Quote
NancyJohnson Posted February 8, 2019 Posted February 8, 2019 I've always been curious about these. Are they scratch built or just bolted together from AllParts style parts? Quote

Are they scratch built or just bolted together from AllParts style parts? Bolted together, but I think there's a bit more involved than that. The rolled fingerboard edges for example. Wind their own pickups too. Certainly seem to have hit on a decent formula! Edited February 8, 2019 by Bigwan 1 Quote
wateroftyne Posted February 8, 2019 Posted February 8, 2019 Two months for mine, but that was ordered in 2017. Dunno what the lead time is now. Totally worth the wait, tho. 1 Quote
Dazed Posted February 8, 2019 Posted February 8, 2019 (edited) Even better value second hand - although the original owners seem to abuse them heavily 😜 Edited February 8, 2019 by Dazed 2 Quote

Dazed Posted February 8, 2019 Posted February 8, 2019 Yeah they don’t plummet as much as a fender might. 1 Quote
Hobbayne Posted February 8, 2019 Author Posted February 8, 2019 I am after a 1963 Sonic Blue P Bass. Not to heavily reliced with a faded almost mint green pickguard. Yes, an AVRI lookalike. Something like this. I have emailed Mark and he can do exactly what I,m looking for in about 12 weeks for a lot cheaper than I imagined. 5 Quote
knicknack Posted February 9, 2019 Posted February 9, 2019 I believe average is about 12 weeks at the moment. The bodies and neck come from Allparts but the guys really seem to have a knack for making them sing... the tone is there acoustically and plugged in they sound awesome. Big fan here! 1 Quote
wateroftyne Posted February 9, 2019 Posted February 9, 2019 I was under their impression they built their own bodies..? Maybe not. Quote

Woodinblack Posted February 9, 2019 Posted February 9, 2019 I was sort of thinking about one. I don't really normally like fenders, and am not that bothered about vintage, but today I played a 1965 Jazz bass with flats on it, and TBH, it was one of the nicest fenders I had ever played, i would be more than happy to have something like that, but it was a little bit more money than I would want to pay (ok, rephrasing, it was 5x the amount I would like to pay!), and it occured to me it would be a bit of a liability, too expensive to take anywhere, but I wouldn't want to play with all the metal on and frankly the pots could do with replacing (and I know you can't do that sort of stuff) Quote
Hobbayne Posted March 27, 2019 Author Posted March 27, 2019 I have put my order in with mark. Does he give you regular updates on progress? Or do you not hear anything till its ready. I would quite like to see some work in progress pics. Quote

lou24d53 Posted March 27, 2019 Posted March 27, 2019 (edited) Never saw this thread before, but coincidentally I emailed the other day there asking about cost for these (never thought to ask time!) as I'm thinking about going for one based on John Entwistle's Frankenstein 65 P, Fiesta Red, Maple Neck...just need to move a few things on first to finance...that sonic blue P you've just ordered though @Hobbayne...Oooooft.... police squad Posted March 27, 2019 Posted March 27, 2019 Here's a gratuitous picture of my wife's Bravewood '63 in Daphne blue. Un-reliced and unplayed these days as she's not gigging atm. The limelights look incredible too 1 Quote
wateroftyne Posted March 27, 2019 Posted March 27, 2019 Since getting mine, I've been lucky enough to acquire beautiful (real) '73 and '63 P's. Technically I should now sell my Limelight, but I can't part with it. It's just too wonderful. 3 1 Quote
Bassman Sam Posted March 28, 2019 Posted March 28, 2019 Is it possible to spec a Limelight un-reliced? Quote
lou24d53 Posted March 28, 2019 Posted March 28, 2019 (edited) I don't think so, in my email the other day I enquired about one "unreliced if possible" and Mark's reply was "we could do a very light relic"... Edited March 28, 2019 by lou24d53 1 Quote
Hobbayne Posted March 28, 2019 Author Posted March 28, 2019 In their website blurb Mark says something along the lines of 'players who want the sound, feel and look of a vintage instrument'. I didnt know that he started out as a cheaper option to Nash. 2 Quote
