Bridgehouse Posted February 9, 2019 Posted February 9, 2019 Seem to have a hankering for an EB-0 type bass. Cheap and cheerful probably. Might even turn into a mad upgrade project. Am I mad? Quote
Dazed Posted February 9, 2019 Posted February 9, 2019 Rhetorical question? 😂 Worry not, you are in good company! Quote
GuyR Posted February 9, 2019 Posted February 9, 2019 If it involves the acquisition of another bass, then what could possibly go wrong? Quote
Bridgehouse Posted February 9, 2019 Author Posted February 9, 2019 I guess it’s the idea of finding a cheapie £100 bass and then dropping huge amounts on upgrades - we all know that’s how it ends up Quote
hooky_lowdown Posted February 9, 2019 Posted February 9, 2019 If you want a muddy sound, just roll off the tone on whatever bass you use. You'll thank me later! Quote

I do that already - plenty of rolled off tone with flats. No, this is more about just some weird hankering for the aesthetic. SG body shape that’s awkward to wear, far too much neck dive, odd bridge, dodgy intonation.. you know, that sort of stuff 1 Quote

Paul S Posted February 9, 2019 Posted February 9, 2019 (edited) I did all this too. On the plus side, they are cheap to buy initially, the usual upgrades (new pickup, Hipshot bridge) aren't punishingly expensive, the neck is (for me, anyway) really comfy and they are quite fun to play. And if, once the honeymoon period is over, you come to the realisation that it still sounds like mud and neck dives atrociously, you can return it to stock and sell off the bits to the neck person who gets besotted with the idea. As GAS goes it is fairly small beans to cure, really. Edited February 9, 2019 by Paul S 1 Quote

Bridgehouse Posted February 9, 2019 Author Posted February 9, 2019 If I really wanted to scratch the itch I’d get an early 70s slot head - but with a custom fretless on the way it’s really not the right time to stick that sort of money down in a hankering!!! Quote
jezzaboy Posted February 10, 2019 Posted February 10, 2019 I had a hankering for one as well. Bought it and very quickly no longer had said hankering. I know some people like them but it is by far the worst bass I have owned. If I was looking for one I would have to get one of the re issues or a vintage one. Quote

It’s not like I’m expecting it to be good or anything. I think I need more pills. NURSE! Quote
Paul S Posted February 10, 2019 Posted February 10, 2019 I think it is a rite of passage thing. If you are a tinkerer then at some point the pull of the EB0 gets too strong. You may as well do it sooner rather than later and get it out of the way Quote
Bridgehouse Posted February 10, 2019 Author Posted February 10, 2019 Shame they don’t do a 5 string. I’d be all over it right away Quote
