ziggenpuss
Does anyone know if Gotoh GB707 machine heads i.e this type. [attachment=16909:gb707c.jpg] would be a driect replacement for a Squire VMJ? I can't find any dimensions posted anywhere so unsure if they would slot straight in or if the headstock would require drilling out. Also what size and weight are they compared to the standard tuners? They look a bit smaller than the clover leaf ones so would they look 'interesting' or just plain daft? Protium
Not. The Squire has big fender-style tuners with 3/4" holes and 4 screws holding them on. The Gotoh ones are 17mm holes IIRC and are held by 1 screw. Weightwise, the Gotohs will be lighter.
ziggenpuss
Now found the dimensions thanks to the pinned topic at the top. DOHH!! But thank you anyway Protium. These appear to be the 'compact' ones advertised on a few sites so obviously require a much smaller peg hole. (Goes to stand in corner looking shamefaced) Edited December 6, 2008 by ziggenpuss
