Changing top bar

I say top bar because i dont know the technical name,  but why do i see different top bars depending on whether i'm replying , or starting ( and indeed editing ) a post ?

If reply to a post i see the top bar in screenshot 1.  If  i edit that post,   i see the full top bar in screenshot 2.   If i start a thread ( as in this one ) i see the full top bar as in screenshot 2

Second bar is the extended editing bar - which it will assume you don't need for a simple reply.

Ok, everything has voting buttons now and the timeline is all over the place. Fleabag seems to have unwittingly altered the fabric of time.

Thank gawd these super-confusing arrows aren't in the main sections...

Ah. Just spotted the "sort" options at the top. Timeline is restored....phew.

Yup, it's just weird that the top bar changes depending on what i'm doing. As i type this reply, half of the tools in the top bar have disappeared as per pic 1 above

A suitable name for a camel is obviously 'Giles', or 'Eric', possibly 'Barry'. certainly NOT Ivan!
