thepurpleblob Posted February 17, 2019 Posted February 17, 2019 Another vote for Lakland. My go to bass is a Lakland Dual J 5 string. Effectively a passive J "copy". Very, very impressive. Quote
timhiggins Posted February 17, 2019 Posted February 17, 2019 Another vote for Sire but watch the weight as mine probably makes your Wal feel like a banjo ! Quote

Although a bit pricey, they are lovely Instruments to play. https://www.lakland.com/product/usa-series-55-aj/ https://www.lakland.com/product/usa-series-55-60-vintage-j/ I was referring to the Skyline series. Some of the Skyline Joe Osborns I've played are better than some of the Fender CS's ive played. Quote

I believe they use the same pickups and preamp as the USA models. Very much like Lakland. 1 Quote

I'm really impressed with the quality - made in Indonesia, but finished off in the U.S. I've gigged this bass a few times and used it in rehearsals with a couple of bands, and really does hold it's own in the mix. GisserD Posted February 19, 2019 Posted February 19, 2019 (edited) I was truly on the fence about fender until I tried a fender jazz elite 5er in guitarguitar Birmingham. It was WAY out of my price range but ended up buying it because it was without doubt the nicest 5 that I ever played. It just spoke to me! The compound neck radius, that active tone, the fit and finish were all superb. And the B is great! Still love it. Edited February 19, 2019 by GisserD 3 Quote
