There's something about a black bass which is understated and classy, where a red or unusual colour (like a bright orange, lime green etc) would stick out, some more than others. I guess the same could apply to white too (classy and fits in). Whether you want to stick out, or let the music do the talking, is another matter.

I want the music to do the talking. But I can't help standing out

Certain colours seem to suit some basses more than others.

Blue is my favourite colour for short scales like my daphne blue '72 musicmaster & JMJ mustang, and my blueburst danelectro longhorn, but I'm not so keen on blue long scale basses which look better in sunburst or candy-apple red.

Someone mention a blue Dano…??

There's no "pie" option?? 😲

There is! :)

(something else - please specify)

This quite clearly means pie!

(although my choice meant tiger stripes over natural, but there was nowhere to spec. it :()

🍝 - why is there no pie emoticon thingy? O.o

The problem with your poll is that you have lumped what I consider incompatible choices together.

For instance I like a proper bright "white" white, but would never consider an instrument in a creamy white as I think it looks horrible.

Likewise with bursts. Some look great others dull and boring.

I would tend to say they choices reflect a typical man's lack of appreciation of fine details when it come aesthetics.

I had a Status bass that was a brown burst. Faded into black. It was gorgeous, but it got battered over the years

The first band I ever saw was at a family wedding in the sixties when i was but a nipper. The band did loads of Shadows covers and i distinctly remember the bass player had a Candy Apple Red bass. No idea what make or model - in my mind it's a Fender of some sort but i could be wrong.

Since that day i a) wanted to play bass and b) wanted a CAR Fender.

I've managed (a) (barely, some might say) and got close to (b) with a Sandberg.

So i voted red because, for me, that's the 'proper' colour for a bass.

If was the sixties in Britain I bet it was a Hofner.

Went for natural, but obviously depends on the bass. An ibanez in natural (either spalted poplar, or wenge) is great, as would be an ACG or a Alpher. A fender in natural would be terrible, when it should be in either black, olympic white or buttercream.

Yes I should add 'white white' to the 'white' choices I do agree (will action when I'm done gigging tonight).

I should also develop an appreciation for the finer things in life. (Note forward to self). Probably a major factor in me being content with run of the mill Yammy basses and Mesa amps? Will try harder.

But I'm kinda surprised you're not going for a big red bass that you got from your ex? Or is that me just not appreciating the finer things again?

Can you change my vote please? I didn't mean it. 😖

I'm sure you can change your vote any time you like? Is that not the case?
