TwoStringsWouldBeEnough
It's taken me a bit of time to get used to such a big neck but now I love my Avri58, the feel of it, the light weight, the finish that is naturally wearing etc. but overall I find it to be a very bright sounding bass for my needs. I'd be interested in getting a different pup that would give me punch and an added warmth (something closer to 60s reissues) and taking off a bit of the harshness. I thought of a quarter pounder as I have used it in another pbass and I remember liking it.. I also remember loving a Lollar pup I tried in a shop on a Nash bass. Any suggestions on other pickups? I use roundwounds and I mainly play rock, pop and blues so I am not after a Motown/flats sounds. Any help is much appreciated!
Chiliwailer
I find the 58’s to be nice and bright basses, so maybe an overwound pickup will help you make it darker. Lindy Fralin do 5% and 10% overwound pups. The more over you go, the more dark mids and volume you get. Or just get a 60’s P Bass....
pbasspecial
Or £35 you could just buy a s/h Boss GE7B EQ pedal and adjust to suit your taste/bands as you go along. That's what I did with my P Bass that has 62 pickups on when I needed a bit more juice from it. Just a thought. Cheap and simple.
Dan Dare
I have a Seymour Duncan P pickup in my bitsa (not the quarter pounder or the overwound or vintage model, just the basic cooking version) and it does the job. Nice tonal balance and not expensive. Clear but not over bright with rounds and with La Bella flats, it gives me the classic P bass sound. Lozz196
Fender Custom Shop 62, as found in US Standards 2012-16. Warm, rich sounding, great mids not too sharp on top-end, just a great vintage P-bass sound.
spencer.b
I've got a avri and a CS and the CS definitely has a bit more low end and is a touch smoother ( although I think the avri pup is actually closer to a real 60s fender in some ways) Overwound sounds like what you're after imo
4000
Have you thought of trying different strings? Not all stainless sound the same, or you could try nickels (ditto).
TwoStringsWouldBeEnough
Thank you all for your advices guys. I ended up putting a Quarter Pounder and it has really made the low end come up yet retaining its original tone. Always loved this pup!
