Hobbayne
Been exchanging a few emails with Mark about building a bass for me. I have always wanted a sonic blue P bass circa 1964. However, due to the cost of a few thousand pounds, this is not going to happen. I will not play a vintage Fender down the Dog and Duck to be covered in beer by pissheads. So I am commissioning Mark to build me a replica of this beauty. I am looking at a 12 week turnaround. Ooh I cant wait! 😊
Lozz196
Very nice, personally I’d put tort on there for a real 60s vibe.
Phil_T
Love this colour - I built my own cheapo version of this bass last year and had a go at a light relic finish (mainly because my spray job wasn't perfect) 1
bigsmokebass
Looks a tasty bass and for not being a vintage/Custom Shop Fender I think you'll enjoy it more, if you're like myself to worry about vintage or expensive equipment getting scratches or dents. The gigs at the Dog and Duck not going too well? 😜 2
NikNik
Pissheads, pissheads, roly-poly pissheads....I can just see them! Looks good and + 1 to the tort 'guard, though the minty looks cool, too.

On second thoughts I must have imagined it. 😂 Was tort an option on these basses back in the 60's? I have seen a few minty faded green ones online. hooky_lowdown
That's gonna be one sweet bass. Did the squire cv 60s p in sonic blue not interest you?
Rich
That is going to be soooo lovely. I have long dreamed of getting Mark to build me a light relic '65 Jazz in candy apple red (an original being about £8000 out of my price range) and this is doing the GAS no good at all. So, thanks a bunch.
bassfan
Great colour, I have the same coloured Jazz with pea green scratch guard. It will look great 👍🏻👍🏻 Mark is a great guy to deal with to. Edited February 24, 2019 by bassfan 1

This one is personal as I am calling the shots on what I want, amount of relicing etc. Edited February 22, 2019 by Hobbayne
Hobbayne
And here it is folks! What do you think? I wouldnt have minded a little more green on the aged pickguard, but I,m chuffed. Unfortunately, he wants his money now.😫
Kevsy71
beautiful - and those Limelight pups are amazing with flats (and rounds)!
Sibob
Love it, very cool! Yeah a little more mintyness in the pickguard would really make it legit, but whatever, that can happen down the road as a retro-fit maybe. Great job! Si

Hobbayne
Cheers guys. The lighter blue is closer to the real colour according to Mark, so until I see it in real life I shouldnt really comment on the pickguard as the light on the pics can give a false impression. NikNik
I have to get in touch with this lad. I have a vision.....a Shell Pink Sparkle stack-pot Jazz but with the post-'63/'64 neck profile but with the reissue circuit. I'd die a happy man and forget about that real '60 that was offered to me in '93 that I passed on......

I agree - here's my old Limelight Sonic Blue P, and compare the pickguard to the white paper underneath: 2
Hobbayne
I was quoted 12 weeks but due to two or three builds awaiting various parts etc, mine jumped the queue. Apologies to anyone waiting for their limelight builds. 😊
